This spread of ‘holy fascism’ is a disaster

Sunday 18 May 2014 – Patrick Cockburn

Earlier this month, Saudi liberal activist Raif Badawi was sentenced to 1,000 lashes, 10 years in prison and a heavy fine for insulting Islam. In fact, his crime was to establish an online discussion forum where people were free to speak about religion and criticise religious scholars.

He had been charged with “apostasy” in 2012, because of his writings and for hosting discussion on his Saudi Arabian Liberals website, and was sentenced to seven years in prison and 600 lashes but on appeal a heavier sentence was imposed.

Mr Badawi will appeal against the verdict, but it is complicated by the fact that his lawyer and brother-in-law, Waleed Abulkhair, is himself in jail. He was detained without explanation last month when on trial for damaging the image of the kingdom and breaking his allegiance to the king. Under Saudi Arabia’s harsh Sharia code, almost any critical word or deed makes a person liable to severe punishment.

Lashings and beheadings generally get little publicity except where a foreigner is involved. The local media is muzzled and foreign press for the most part excluded. This contrasts with the blanket coverage of the kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls by Boko Haram, the al-Qa’ida type movement in northern Nigeria.

Missing Girls of Chobok, Nigeria: Why Christians Should Care….and Act

Afolabi Sotunde ReutersBy Dr David Curry , CP Guest Contributor – May 2, 2014

$12.50. This reportedly is the current “market” price for Nigerian girl brides in some areas of Cameroon and Chad.

Two-hundred and thirty Nigerian girls, mostly Christians ages 16-20, were kidnapped from a boarding school in the northeastern village of Chobok by members of the Muslim terrorist group Boko Haram on the night of April 21. Approximately 200 girls are still missing.

The parents have taken to the streets and pleaded for help from the government to rescue the girls. But the government seems powerless to make a concerted rescue attempt.

It probably is too little and too late. Some of the girls could have already been married to Muslim men and forced to convert to Islam. If the past kidnappings of Nigerian girls are any indication, some are now sexual slaves for Boko Haram members, while also making their meals and doing their dirty work.

A worker with Open Doors International, which partners with churches in northern Nigeria, states: “The abducted girls will most probably be responsible for cooking and cleaning for the insurgents. But there is every possibility that these children could be forcefully converted to Islam and married off to members of the group or other Muslim men.”

Leading The Way Continues to Impact Indonesia One Year After Revival Gatherings

Crowds worship at the Istora stadiumASSIST News Service (ANS) – Tuesday, May 13, 2014

ATLANTA, GA (ANS) — One year after nearly a thousand people made commitments to follow Christ at Leading The Way’s revival gatherings in Jakarta’s Istora Stadium last May, the ministry is continuing to impact the world’s largest Muslim nation.

“Our Indonesian revival was only the beginning of a long-term outreach to Indonesia,” explained Leading The Way’s Founder and President Dr. Michael Youssef.

He added: “On March 1 this year, we launched THE KINGDOM SAT in the Indonesian language. So now on satellite television we have what we’ve been broadcasting in the Arab world for five years. Now anyone in Indonesia with a satellite dish will have access to the Gospel subtitled in their language. That’s remarkable growth from just a simple stadium evangelistic outreach.”

A team of 100 Christian leaders is following up with each person who committed his or her life to Christ at last year’s meetings in Jakarta. One of those team members was a former Muslim extremist who had become an evangelist and risked his life to bring people to the meetings: “He brought 17 buses of people every night. The second night, 30 people showed up at his doorstep, and they threatened to kill him if he took people to the final night. So he shows up with all these buses, and at the end of the meetings they were interviewing him on camera with his face covered, and my son Jonathan asked him, ‘How come they threatened your life, and yet you are here and you brought all these people?’ He said, ‘If they kill me, I go to Jesus,’ with a big smile on his face. “I wish every Western Christian could watch this incredible man of courage. He’s not afraid. He said, ‘I’d rather see these people saved than worry about my life,’ and he is one of those people who is doing a lot of the follow-up.”

The natural rain pours down before the supernatural rain of the Holy Spirit as Pr Daniel and team visits Mildura, Vic / Radio interview link

Dear family & friends in Christ,

In the past few years there has been something amazing happening in almost every place Pr Daniel goes to minister, and that is that the rains come down.

Many have watched the DVD ‘Faith like Potatoes’, the incredible story of the South African Preacher Angus Buchan, who leads God’s people in repentance and prayer, with rain often following.

Well, this amazing falling of rain in many parts of Australia started after we carried out the prayer assignment on Mount Ainsley.

CTFM teams who have been on tour have seen this first hand in several parts of Australia and so it did happen once again in Mildura.

As the vehicle passed the sign which said ‘Welcome to Mildura’, it started pouring down with rain.

Not quite sure whether it had been raining before, a CTFM team member asked the receptionist at the apartments who stated, “I cannot remember when I last saw the rain.”

Then the Pastor of the church stated, “You have brought the rain with you.”

This happens almost every trip and Pr Daniel gets calls from farmers to come on their land and pray for rain.

Now you might wonder why so much emphasis on the rain.

This is very important as the Bible states in Deuteronomy 11:13-14 “It shall come about, if you listen obediently to my commandments which I am commanding you today, to love the LORD your God and to serve Him with all your heart and all your soul, that He will give the rain for your land in its season, the early and late rain, that you may gather in your grain and your new wine and your oil.”

Why Are Christians the World’s Most Persecuted Group?

Why Are Christians the World’s Most Persecuted GroupRaymond Ibrahim – Frontpage Magazine

Why are Christians, as a new Pew report documents, the most persecuted religious group in the world?  And why is their persecution occurring primarily throughout the Islamic world?  (In the category on “Countries with Very High Government Restrictions on Religion,” Pew lists 24 countries—20 of which are Islamic and precisely where the overwhelming majority of “the world’s” Christians are actually being persecuted.)

The reason for this ubiquitous phenomenon of Muslim persecution of  Christians is threefold:

Christianity is the largest religion in the world.  There are Christians practically everywhere around the globe, including in much of the Muslim world.  Moreover, because much of the land that Islam seized was originally Christian—including the Middle East and North Africa, the region that is today known as the “Arab world”—Muslims everywhere are still confronted with vestiges of Christianity, for example, in Syria, where many ancient churches and monasteries are currently being destroyed by al-Qaeda linked, U.S. supported “freedom fighters.”  Similarly, in Egypt, where Alexandria was a major center of ancient Christianity before the 7th century Islamic invasions, there still remain at least 10 million Coptic Christians (though some put the number at much higher). Due to sheer numbers alone, then, indigenous Christians are much more visible and exposed to attack by Muslims than other religious groups throughout the Arab world.   Yet as CNS News puts it, “President Obama expressed hope that the ‘Arab Spring’ would give rise to greater religious freedom in North Africa and the Middle East, which has had the world’s highest level of hostility towards religion in every year since 2007, when Pew first began measuring it. However, the study finds that these regions actually experienced the largest increase in religious hostilities in 2012.”

Daughter of Egyptian Military Intelligence Chief Left Islam

By Mark Ellis God Reports

As a child she was taught to believe the Jews were monsters that wanted to kill Arab children. By God’s grace, she overcame a culture of hatred and found a new reason for hope after she settled in the United States.

“I grew up in a culture of jihad and martyrdom,” says Nonie Darwish, the founder of Former Muslims United. Although born in Cairo, she spent her childhood in the Gaza Strip because her father, Colonel Mustafa Hafez, headed Egypt’s military intelligence there. (Egypt controlled Gaza until 1967.)

Her life changed dramatically at only eight-years-old when her father was killed by an explosive device planted in a book by a double-agent working for Israeli intelligence.

After her father’s assassination, her mother moved the family back to Cairo. She lived there during a turbulent period, which included the 1967 and 1973 wars with Israel. “In school, we recited poetry wishing ourselves to be martyrs in the jihad against Israel,” she recalls.

In the mosque, messages were filled with the call to jihad. She heard curses at the end of every service against infidels, Jews, and non-Muslims. “I bought all the propaganda like everybody else,” she notes. “I really believed it as a child.”

Awesome Presence of God in Western Suburbs of Melbourne / Live webcast this Sunday 25th May with Pr Daniel / Mildura, VIC on Sat 31st May & Sun 1st June

Dear family & friends in Christ,

1) We thank and praise God for His awesome presence last weekend at the meetings held in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne.

Pr Daniel with a team from CTFM ministered at 3 meetings, where many people from different churches came to hear the word of God.

Glory to God the people were mightily blessed at the meetings, with some weeping aloud as the presence of God swept through the place.

People were greatly encouraged and challenged through the word of God and the power of real life testimonies shared by Pr Daniel.

Several times people jumped out of their seats and started shouting with great joy.

Pr Daniel stated, “It somewhat seemed like a Holy Ghost riot breaking out. I get so excited when I see people getting set free from all types of bondages. It is so sad when a church only goes through its pre-planned programs and you can predict what is going to happen next?? This is why many people have stopped going to church, as many have told me how boring church is.

But the great difference is when you are open to the Holy Ghost you just cannot predict as to what’s going to happen next. This gives me great joy. As the agenda of the church service is surrendered to the Holy Ghost. I thank God for Pastors who are willing to do so.”

2) Pr Daniel will be ministering God’s prophetic Word and praying for people this Sunday 24th May at the 9.30am & 6:30pm worship services at CTFM at 30 Star Crescent in Hallam, Melbourne.

Please note that the morning service will be live webcast at www.reformationharvestfire.com beginning at 10:30am (AEDT).

Rwandan Genocide 20th Anniversary: Survivor Talks Forgiving the Man Who Murdered His Family

By Stoyan Zaimov , Christian Post Reporter – April 6, 2014|

To mark Monday’s 20th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, where close to 800,000 people were killed, one survivor working with Operation Christmas Child has shared his personal story of visiting and forgiving the people who murdered his family. He also revealed that the country has experienced remarkable healing and growth in the past couple of decades.

“It was a miracle that God opened up the opportunity for me to meet one of the guys, the guy who killed my uncle, and I was able to share that message of love and forgiveness, and to be able to plant the seeds of hope and love in his life. And [tell him] that Christ also came and died for him, and He loves him just as much as He loves me,” Alex Nsengimana shared with The Christian Post.

“It was probably one of the toughest days of my life, but also one of my most freeing days, because I was able to let go and was able to have the peace that only Jesus Christ can offer.”

Nsengimana was only four years old when he lost his biological mother to HIV in Rwanda. He never knew his father, but had a great relationship with his grandmother, who took care of him, his younger brother and his older sister.

Christians form human shield around church in ‘China’s Jerusalem’ after demolition threat

By Tom Phillips, Wenzhou – 04 Apr 2014

Thousands of Chinese Christians have mounted an extraordinary, round-the-clock defence of a church in a city known as the ‘Jerusalem of the East’ after Communist Party officials threatened to bulldoze their place of worship.

In an episode that underlines the fierce and long-standing friction between China’s officially atheist Communist Party and its rapidly growing Christian congregation, Bible-carrying believers this week flocked to the Sanjiang church in Wenzhou hoping to protect it from the bulldozers.

Their 24-hour guard began earlier this week when a demolition notice was plastered onto the newly-constructed church which worshippers say cost around 30 million yuan (£2.91 million) and almost six years to build.

Officials claimed the church had been built illegally and used red paint to daub the words: “Demolish” and “Illegal construction” onto its towering facade.

Nigerian schoolgirls: Girl who escaped Boko Haram abduction speaks publicly about ordeal

ABC (Australia) ^ | 5/12/2014 by nickcarraway

A teenage girl who managed to escape kidnapping by Islamist group Boko Haram during a night raid in Nigeria last month has spoken publicly about the ordeal, as international assistance to locate more than 200 girls still held hostage ramps up.

Militants stormed a secondary school in the village of Chibok, near the Cameroon border, on April 14 and abducted the girls, who were taking exams at the time.

In an exclusive interview with CNN, one of the girls, who asked not to be identified, said the kidnappers were loading the girls into seven lorries when she escaped.

“He said go and enter this car – a big lorry,” she said.

We ran and ran and we were gone. I feel afraid. The unidentified girl who escaped abduction. “They say OK – enter this lorry, we go. I say I will drop down.

“We run in the bush. We ran and ran and we were gone.

“I feel afraid.”

More than 200 girls are still being held hostage, and Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau says the group intends to sell the teenagers.

Hillsong Takes Over New York City’s Times Square With ‘Jesus,’ ‘No Other Name’ Campaign

By Nicola Menzie , Christian Post Reporter – May 7, 2014|Hillsong Takes Over New York City's Times Square With 'Jesus,' 'No Other Name' Campaign 2

Hillsong “takes over” Times Square’s digital billboards in New York City on Thursday, April 24, 2014, by promoting “Jesus” and “No Other Name,” the name of Hillsong Live’s upcoming album and the church’s 2014 conference theme.

Hillsong, a Pentecostal powerhouse with church campuses spanning the globe, recently descended on New York City’s Times Square to declare the name of Jesus before thousands of onlookers while also shooting cover art for a new album that shares its name with the megachurch’s 2014 conference theme.

Instead of flashing the usual ads, news reports or the day’s market results, 21 digital screens played for an hour a looped video comprised of just a few frames flashing repeatedly: “Jesus” and “No Other Name.”

Jay Argaet, Hillsong’s Art and Communications director, told The Christian Post that at least 400 people from Hillsong NYC church joined in the nighttime campaign at Times Square, one of the world’s most sought out tourist destinations.

Times Square, located between 7th Avenue and Broadway from 42nd and 47th Streets, is trafficked by an average of 360,000 pedestrians every day, many of them out-of-towners.
