Amid a violent crackdown on protestors and a purge of opponents within the Iranian government, more than 30 Christians were arrested in the last two weeks near Tehran and in the northern city of Rasht.

Two waves of arrests near Tehran happened within days of each other, and while most of those detained—all converts from Islam—were held just a day for questioning, a total of eight Christians still remain in prison.

On July 31 police raided a special Christian meeting 15 miles north of Tehran in the village of Amameh in the area of Fashan. A Compass source said about 24 Christians, all converts from Islam, had gathered in a private home. By Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein

War On Jihad

Iranian FlagAn Islamic court in Shiraz, Iran , has just convicted two men of being infidels. Their crime? Converting to Christianity. The possible sentence? Death. Not too far away in Saudi Arabia, an outraged father recently hacked his own daughter to death for the same “abomination.”

In the daily drumbeat of Mideast news, there is one story of historic proportion that goes nearly unreported: the persecution and systematic destruction in the Islamic world of some of the world’s oldest Christian communities.

Sure, we hear when a Catholic bishop is murdered in Iraq, when machete-armed fanatics attack Egyptian Copt worshipers, or when churches are torched in Hamas-controlled Gaza. (more…)

Iranian Leader Ahmadinejad In Rudd’s Sights

By Dennis Shanahan – The Australian

Prime Minister Kevin RuddTHE Rudd Government is preparing a case to take Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the International Court of Justice for “inciting genocide” and denying the Jewish Holocaust.

Australia is the only nation pursuing Iran’s despotic leader, who has threatened to “wipe Israel off the map”, through international laws.

The Australian revealed last October that Kevin Rudd, then the Opposition leader, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejadpromised the Jewish community before last year’s election he would take legal proceedings in the ICJ against Mr Ahmadinejad.

The Labor leader said it was “strongly arguable” that Mr Ahmadinejad’s conduct – statements about wiping Israel off the map, questioning whether Zionists were human beings and a conference that he convened on the veracity of the Holocaust – amounted to incitement to genocide, which was criminalised under the 1948 genocide convention. “They said ‘go away, you’re not our son.’ They told people I died in an accident rather than having the shame of their son leaving Islam.”  (more…)
