I renounced Islam, so my family think I should die

Amal Farah, above, said the case of Meriam Ibrahim prompted her to speak out Photo WARREN SMITHBy Harriet Alexander – 25 May 2014

Apostasy is not just something that scandalises people in far off lands. Harriet Alexander hears the story of a British woman whose life was turned upside down when she left Islam – echoing the plight of Meriam Ibrahim, who awaits a death sentence in Sudan for the same “crime”.

If Amal Farah were not living in Britain, she believes she might well be dead.

For the 33-year-old financial manager had carried out an act so heinous, her family felt she deserved to die.

Her crime? She had renounced her Islamic faith – “and within my community, that’s a capital offence,” she said. “They believe you deserve to die.”

Mrs Farah, who was born in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, but now lives in Britain, has never told her story before.

New Zealand mosque shut down after violent attacks and declaration of jihad against guards hired to protect premises

New Zealand mosque shut down after violent attacks and declaration of jihad against guards hired to protect premisesRobert Spencer May 21, 2014

Everyone involved in this story seems to take for granted that “jihad” has something to do with violence against Infidels. Yet in the U.S. we are constantly told that that is something that only greasy Islamophobes think. No doubt Ahmed Rehab is jetting to Auckland as we speak, so as to explain to the Muslims at the Avondale Islamic Centre that jihad really means dropping off the kids at school.

“‘Jihad’ threat to mosque security,” by Lincoln Tan, New Zealand Herald, May 20, 2014:

A mosque in Auckland has been shut down indefinitely following violent attacks and the declaration of jihad, or holy war, against private security staff hired to guard the premises.

Bill Frost, who leads the Global Security Intelligence team at the Avondale Islamic Centre, was assaulted twice on Sunday and said he feared for his life and the safety of his family after one worshipper threatened him with jihad.

Christian Cop Loses Appeal – Must Attend Mosque

June 13, 2014 | Bob Unruh

A panel of federal judges in Denver, in an opinion written by Judge Harris Hartz, found that it is perfectly appropriate for a police chief to order subordinates to attend an Islamic mosque where Muslims “discussed Islamic beliefs, Muhammad, Mecca, and why and how Muslims pray” in addition to encouraging officers “to buy” Islamic books and pamphlets that were for sale.

The ruling came on Thursday from the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in a case brought by Capt. Paul Fields, who had been ordered by Tulsa police officials to either go to a special event at the local mosque himself, or order others to do that.

Fields refused based on religious freedom objections and was punished for that.

The judges on the 10th Circuit panel said that was perfectly appropriate.

“This ruling is troubling on so many levels,” said Robert Muise, of the American Freedom Law Center, which has pursued the case since it developed several years ago.

Throw your hijabs in the air like you just don’t care! Thousands of Iranian women ditch their hijabs on Facebook

A woman poses without her hijab in front of Iranian police carsMay 14th, 2014 – via SyndiGate.info

Women in Iran have been posting pictures of themselves after ‘stealthily’ taking their hijabs off in public, in a country where it is illegal for a female to leave the house without wearing a headscarf under Islamic law.

Over 150 photos have been posted to the Stealthy Freedoms of Iranian Women Facebook page which has amassed more than 140,000 likes since it was created just a week ago by the Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad.

Ms Alinejad, who left Iran to pursue her studies in the UK in 2009, told The Independent the page began when she posted a photograph of herself driving down a road in the country without wearing a headscarf.

The image was captioned with: “Hijab is being forced on women not only by the Morality Police, but also out of consideration for family, through wanting to keep a job and because of fear of judgment from others.”

“I wrote that I had experienced all of these pressures too,” she explained. “I was sure that most Iranian women who don’t believe in the forced hijab have enjoyed freedom in secret, [so] I asked them if they wished to share this moment of stealth freedom.”

This spread of ‘holy fascism’ is a disaster

Sunday 18 May 2014 – Patrick Cockburn

Earlier this month, Saudi liberal activist Raif Badawi was sentenced to 1,000 lashes, 10 years in prison and a heavy fine for insulting Islam. In fact, his crime was to establish an online discussion forum where people were free to speak about religion and criticise religious scholars.

He had been charged with “apostasy” in 2012, because of his writings and for hosting discussion on his Saudi Arabian Liberals website, and was sentenced to seven years in prison and 600 lashes but on appeal a heavier sentence was imposed.

Mr Badawi will appeal against the verdict, but it is complicated by the fact that his lawyer and brother-in-law, Waleed Abulkhair, is himself in jail. He was detained without explanation last month when on trial for damaging the image of the kingdom and breaking his allegiance to the king. Under Saudi Arabia’s harsh Sharia code, almost any critical word or deed makes a person liable to severe punishment.

Lashings and beheadings generally get little publicity except where a foreigner is involved. The local media is muzzled and foreign press for the most part excluded. This contrasts with the blanket coverage of the kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls by Boko Haram, the al-Qa’ida type movement in northern Nigeria.

Missing Girls of Chobok, Nigeria: Why Christians Should Care….and Act

Afolabi Sotunde ReutersBy Dr David Curry , CP Guest Contributor – May 2, 2014

$12.50. This reportedly is the current “market” price for Nigerian girl brides in some areas of Cameroon and Chad.

Two-hundred and thirty Nigerian girls, mostly Christians ages 16-20, were kidnapped from a boarding school in the northeastern village of Chobok by members of the Muslim terrorist group Boko Haram on the night of April 21. Approximately 200 girls are still missing.

The parents have taken to the streets and pleaded for help from the government to rescue the girls. But the government seems powerless to make a concerted rescue attempt.

It probably is too little and too late. Some of the girls could have already been married to Muslim men and forced to convert to Islam. If the past kidnappings of Nigerian girls are any indication, some are now sexual slaves for Boko Haram members, while also making their meals and doing their dirty work.

A worker with Open Doors International, which partners with churches in northern Nigeria, states: “The abducted girls will most probably be responsible for cooking and cleaning for the insurgents. But there is every possibility that these children could be forcefully converted to Islam and married off to members of the group or other Muslim men.”

Muslims in Australia 10 times more likely to die waging jihad in Syria than serving in the military

Robert Spencer – Jihad Watch

In the Australian military, as in the American military, Islam is a protected topic. No one dares utter a critical word for fear of charges of “Islamophobia” and the attendant career ruin. The most shameful examples of this were the strongly favorable performance reviews given to the Fort Hood jihad mass murderer, Nidal Malik Hasan, even after it was abundantly clear that he was a jihadist and many of his colleagues were threatened by his behavior.

“Criticising Islam, gays sets army major up for a fall,” by Paul Sheehan for the Sydney Morning Herald, March 17:

Major Bernie Gaynor jnr has served three tours of duty in Iraq but he is going to be thrown out of the army this week, or next, or very soon. And he is not going quietly.

Last week, I attended a conference in Melbourne called the Symposium on Islam and Liberty in Australia, organised by the Q Society, and Gaynor was one of the speakers. I also interviewed him at length about why a patriotic, articulate Australian intelligence officer, now serving in the Army Reserve, has become an unbearable presence for the Chief of Army, among others.

In his blog, Gaynor describes himself as ”a conservative Catholic who writes what normal men dare not speak out loud”. I put it to him that his commentary online and on Twitter had evolved into a provocation to the army.

New study: wealthy, better educated Muslims more likely to wage jihad

Robert Spencer – Jihad Watch

This study makes a statement that is absurd on its face when it says that “religious practice” plays no role in “violent radicalization,” when in reality we have seen time and time again that jihad terrorists are devout, observant Muslims who appeal to peaceful Muslims by invoking the Qur’an and the example of Muhammad and portraying themselves as the true Muslims. But nonetheless, this study debunks once again one of the core assumptions of the Washington foreign policy establishment: that poverty causes terrorism, and that therefore throwing money at the problem of jihad will make it go away.

“Risk factors for violent radicalization: youth, wealth and education,” from Medical News Today, March 21 (thanks to LA):

New research from Queen Mary University of London has found youth, wealth, and being in full-time education to be risk factors associated with violent radicalisation. Contrary to popular views – religious practice, health and social inequalities, discrimination, and political engagement showed no links.

The pioneering research assessed population prevalence of sympathies for terrorist acts – a key marker of vulnerability to violent radicalisation – and their relationship with commonly assumed causes of radicalisation. The community study surveyed over 600 men and women of Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Muslim heritage in London and Bradford, aged 18-45.

Pakistan’s blasphemy law used to “kill innocent Christians without giving them a chance to prove their innocence”

Robert Spencer– Jihad Watch

Savan Masih was accused of blasphemy after a Muslim barber, who no doubt considered him an unclean Infidel (in accord with Qur’an 9:28), refused him a haircut, and they started to argue about religion. Following that, a 3,000-strong Muslim mob rampaged through a Christian area of Lahore. And no Savan Masih, if convicted, will be executed.

“NEWS ALERT: Verdict Expected In Pakistan Blashemy [sic] Case,” from BosNewsLife, March 21:

LAHORE, PAKISTAN (BosNewsLife)– A verdict was expected in Pakistan Saturday, March 22, in a controversial case involving a young Christian man charged with blasphemy against Islam, which sparked one of the country’s worst anti-Christian riots.

Savan Masih, 27, was detained in March 2013 after allegedly making derogatory remarks about Islam’s Prophet Muhammad.

Residents said the problems began when Masih was refused a hair cut by the local barber shop’s Muslim owner, Imran Shahid. The incident triggered a heated exchange about religion between the two men, residents said at the time.

RUAP Media Release: A selfless Federal Budget affects the selfish mind set We must think of our children and grandchildren – If not we might have to depend on Islamic Sharia Finance

Rise Up Australia PartyGeneral Immediate Media Release 27th May 2014

Today from his office in Melbourne the National President of RUAP, Daniel Nalliah, called on people in Australia not to be selfish but instead to be selfless.

He stated, “in the past 2 weeks I have been watching many protesting the Federal Budget. Let me ask you a question, ‘Why are you protesting against the budget??

Is it because you are being led by organised gangs in Universities and Unions? Is it the media hype? Is it because you are a member of the opposition (Labor or Greens, etc.)?

Or, is it simply because we are so selfish?’

One of Rise Up Australia Party’s election campaign policies was to ‘Keep Australia debt free’. So how can we do it, and more importantly why should we do it??

I took a good look at the federal budget over the past few days and realised, that this is quite a hard hitting budget for our back pocket, but it is worth paying the price in order to Keep Australia debt free. Unfortunately, we also have very short memories. Whenever Labor takes office they dole out large sums of money, which they have promised to give before elections, in order to get elected. Perhaps, we can call it a bribe. Then of course they do what they are very good at doing, guess what?? Run the country into debt.

The Coalition Government (Liberal & National) have a reputation of putting the country back in order by cleaning up the mess Labor & Greens have created. But this is hard work. It does not come with bags of lollies, or claps and cheers.

Well, the budget is hard hitting, but let’s be self-sacrificing and think of our children and grandchildren. Are you willing to pay the price now?? Or are you going to leave our country in a mess for them??

What is most interesting is the creeping in of Islamic Sharia Finance into the Western world. Today the West is in debt to the Middle East, in particular Saudi Arabia, which demands the promotion of Islam (the worst type of Islam known as Sunni / Wahhabism) in return for their petro dollars.

“My name is Layla Murad. I left Islam in April 2013”

Here is a fascinating and illuminating exposition of the journey of a mind, as a young Muslim woman explores and examines Islam, and ultimately decides to leave it altogether.

Her exercise of her freedom of conscience in this way has placed her life in perpetual danger, thanks to Islam’s death penalty for apostasy — an outrage to human rights that is greeted only with indifference by the world “human rights community.”

“My Journey In and Out of Islam,” by Layla Murad at Desperately Seeking Paradise, December 28, 2013:

1. Introduction

My name is Layla Murad. I left Islam in April 2013.

I’ve always been intellectually curious. My story is a long one. A lot of my infatuation with Islam was to do with my inquisitive nature… and of course… the internet.

2. Background

I was brought up in a practising but liberal Muslim household. My parents are Pakistanis, both hailing from Muhajir families in Karachi. Even the most religious among the Muhajirs are often highly progressive and secular minded when it comes to politics and global affairs. My aunt in Pakistan, for example, who started wearing niq?b after the death of her paralysed daughter, has the same zeal for Farhat Hashmi (a popular female Wahhabi preacher) as she does for the secular, ethno-centric policies of the MQM.

Islam was not an obvious, nor a quietist force in my life. It was just there…I didn’t, nor did anyone else, think too much about it. My parents were the kind of people who would be willing to drop me to a nightclub and pick me up again. Yet, they attributed the good in life to the One God, prayed five times a day, fasted during the month of Ramadan, gave charity. I saw my dad make the Hajj. The Islam that had been passed on to me was the basics: the Five Pillars.

But this approach had always seemed bland. I wanted something more….
