US State Department Says No to Iraqi Christians

By Faith J. H. McDonnell – 2015-05-17

Writing in April in USA Today about the murder of 12 Christian migrants thrown into the sea by Muslims for praying to Jesus instead of Allah, columnist Kirsten Powers stated that President Barack Obama “just can’t seem to find any passion for the mass persecution of Middle Eastern Christians or the eradication of Christianity from its birthplace.”

The president’s response appears to be United States policy. Evidence suggests that within the administration not only is there no passion for persecuted Christians under threat of genocide from the Islamic State, there is no room for them, period. In fact, despite ISIS’ targeting of Iraqi Christians specifically because they are Christians, and, as such, stand in the way of a pure, Islamic Caliphate in the Middle East (and beyond), the U.S. State Department has made it clear that “there is no way that Christians will be supported because of their religious affiliation.”

An Anglican bishop revealed that this policy position presented to him in his most recent interaction with State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM). The Rt. Rev. Julian M. Dobbs, bishop of the Diocese of CANA East (Convocation of Anglicans in North America) is an advocate for persecuted people worldwide. On this occasion, Dobbs was appealing on behalf of a group of Assyrian Christians desperately in need of rescue from northern Iraq.

Jeb Bush Says Homosexual Marriage is Not a Constitutional Right

May 17, 2015Bloomberg, David Knowles

Jeb Bush knows the way he would rule on same-sex marriage if he were a Supreme Court justice.

Interviewed Sunday by the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody, Bush was asked whether he believed that gay marriage was a right protected by the U.S. constitution.

“I don’t, but I’m not a lawyer, and clearly this has been accelerated at a warp pace,” he said.

The Supreme Court is expected to rule sometime next month on whether gay marriage should be made legal in all 50 U.S. states, and Bush tied the future of the country itself to the issue of the family structure.

Ethiopian Christians Stay Strong Despite Persecution

May 19, 2015 – MNNLindsay Steele

If you were unjustly thrown in jail, would you cry out and ask God why He was doing this to you? Or would you see it as an opportunity to share Christ in a new environment?

Seven Ethiopian Christians chose the second option, and Open Doors USA encouraged them to stay strong in the midst of suffering for Christ.

Open Doors UK reported three leaders and four church members were arrested on April 25 during a baptism for 40 new believers. The believers were accused of holding illegal meetings in secret locations, which the church denied.

Though Ethiopia’s constitution gives people freedom of religion, the law requires churches and Christian groups to have written permission to meet.

An anonymous source told Open Doors UK, “They have informed government officials about their ministry and their meetings both orally and in writing.”

Christian Businessman Builds 140-Foot ‘Bulletproof’ Cross In the Middle of Pakistan’s Largest City

May 16, 2015 -The Washington Post – Tim Craig

A Christian businessman is building a 140-foot cross in the middle of Pakistan’s largest city. The cross, expected to be completed this summer, is being billed as the “largest cross in Asia.” (Tim Craig/The Washington Post)

Pakistani businessman Parvez Henry Gill says he was sleeping when God crashed into one of his dreams and gave him a job: find a way to protect Christians in Pakistan from violence and abuse. “I want you to do something different,” God told him.

That was four years ago, and Gill, a lifelong devout Christian, struggled for months with how to respond. Eventually, after more restless nights and more prayers, he awoke one morning with his answer: He would build one of the world’s largest crosses in one of the world’s most unlikely places.

“I said, ‘I am going to build a big cross, higher than any in the world, in a Muslim country,’ ” said Gill, 58. “It will be a symbol of God, and everybody who sees this will be worry-free.”

Now, in this overwhelmingly Muslim country, in the heart of a city where Islamist extremists control pockets of some neighborhoods, the 14-story cross is nearly complete.

It is being built at the entrance to Karachi’s largest Christian cemetery, towering over thousands of tombstones that are often vandalized. Once his cross looms over such acts of disrespect, Gill said, he hopes it can convince the members of Pakistan’s persecuted Christian minority that someday their lives will get better.

Boys Without Dads: A Cruel and Volatile Calculus

By Ken Blackwell , CP Op-Ed Contributor – May 11, 2015

This column was co-authored by Rob Schwarzwalder.

The rioting in Baltimore is disturbing to all Americans, as the unresolved cause of Freddie Gray’s death while in police custody should be, as well.

It is right that political and religious leaders, community groups, business organizations, and law enforcement officials are commenting about all the causes and effects of the riots. But one thing seems missing from the discussion, a factor whose omission is unacceptable. It’s called fatherhood.

The rioting is inexcusable but should not be wholly surprising. It is likely that the great majority of it was been done by young black men – young black men without fathers.

Fatherhood is in crisis all across the country. In 2011, Pew Research evaluated data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) “National Survey of Family Growth” and found that “more than one-in-four fathers with children 18 or younger now live apart from their children —with 11 percent living apart from some of their children and 16 percent living apart from all of their children.”

Christian leaders in India protest recent spate of attacks after yet another incident

Barnabas Fund ^ | 05/12/2015|

Over 400 Christian leaders and social activists gathered together in Hyderabad, in India’s Telangana state, on 2 May, to hold a peaceful protest against a recent spate of attacks against Christians. The protest came in the wake of yet another brutal mob attack in the state, when at least 100 Hindu radicals stormed a Christian meeting shouting anti-Christians slogans and beating the believers with wooden clubs, iron rods, and knives.

Christians in India meet to pray together

First breaking the lights and sound system, the assailants then proceeded to attack the Christians who had gathered together in Pebber town, in Telangana state, at around 9.30 pm on 8 April. According to International Christian Concern, the Christians ran outside and into the bushes to hide from the attackers, but at least 15 were wounded, some of them sustaining serious injuries.

The believers had been concluding an event in which they had organised three days of open-air revival meetings from 6 to 8 April. Over 300 Christians from nearby villages had come especially for the event.

A Free Online Resource Connects People to the Message of Jesus

3/23/2015 Steve Strang

Imagine nearly everyone in the world holding a “gospel tract” that they check several times a day.

That’s what technology provides for believers who want to share their faith. With most of the modern world referring to their mobile devices, there’s an app that tells about Jesus in a fresh, winsome way—often using the testimonies of celebrities.

It’s a website and an app called “yesHeis,” the brainchild of a wealthy British businessman with a heart for ministry.

Lord Robert Edmiston has done charitable work since the late 1980s through an amazing ministry called Christian Vision, now called CV. To spread the gospel, CV utilizes many means, including shortwave radio, which was especially effective for many years in areas that have little to no religious freedom like that in Muslim-dominated countries.

I first heard about this at an international networking meeting of business and ministry leaders. I was so impressed that I downloaded the free app and later interviewed Lord Edmiston about it.

New content is posted daily on yesHEis.com. It’s easy to find videos from celebrities like Bono who give a very clear Christian witness. Material is arranged by topic for people who have a particular interest or who is grappling with a big problem.

“I am sorry” – says Ps Daniel – A prophetic dream of warning

Dear family & friends in Christ,Reconciliation

Earlier this year during the last weekend of April, I was ministering in Townsville, QLD.

One morning I woke up with a dream seeing Indigenous children crying out for help all around me.

This really broke my heart as I started reaching out to help them. Just then right behind me from the seabed there was a massive black cloud which appeared out of the water, like a big explosion. Out of the cloud came balls of fire which seemed like lava, like a volcano eruption.

By this time in the dream, I was going outside the building that I was in to help the people, but others in the building were trying to stop me from going outside, as it was too dangerous. However, I refused to stay inside and got outside of the building, asking God what to do to help the people.

Just then in the dream I felt strongly that the cloud was some kind of major disaster coming over the land and that we need to fight against it.

As I was wondering how to fight it in the dream, I had a prompting of 2 Chronicles 7:14, “if My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

At once I knew that the Lord wants us to humble ourselves as His people and to repent for any wrong we have done.

Just then I was reminded of Math 12:36-37, “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”

At this point I realised that I needed to ask forgiveness for all the wrong words that I have spoken, also for all those that I have offended in any way, and for any anger, bitterness, un-forgiveness, hurt or offense that I may still be carrying in my heart. That I need to repent and put it right by starting at home with my family, then my ministry team, my church, the body of Christ and the nation.

Baylor University Scholars Say Reports About Imminent Death of Religion Have Been Greatly Exaggerated; Faith Is Growing, Not Dying, In America and Around the World

May 11, 2015 – Baptist News Global – Ken Camp

Conference speakers highlight statistics and trends showing that in the U.S. and around the world, faith is on the rise.

Reports about the imminent death of religion, the rise of secularization and the growth of atheism largely ignore facts or rely on faulty research, scholars from Baylor University’s Institute for Studies of Religion said during a recent conference.

Reports emphasizing the rise of “nones” and the massive flight of Millennials from organized religion greatly exaggerate — and sometimes misinterpret — hard data, said Byron Johnson, distinguished professor of the social sciences at Baylor and founding director of the Institute for Studies of Religion.

“There’s a story some people want to report — that religion is on life support — but it’s just not true,” he asserted.

Surveys that report Millennials have left the faith of their parents often really mean they have stopped attending church for a few years or identify with a nondenominational church rather than a Mainline denomination — not that they have abandoned Christianity, he said, pointing to findings from the Baylor Religion Survey.
