I believe it necessary to pick up from last week’s column “Who’s your king?” with the recognition that while using the choice of Saul as Israel’s first king as an illustration, it appeared I was making the case that he was solely the people’s choice, not God’s. Several e-mails from studious readers properly took me to task, so let me assert that Scripture is clear. God guided Samuel, and in His sovereign plan directed him to anoint Saul (1 Samuel 9).

What cannot be overlooked is that the entire process was a result of the people rejecting the authority of God over the nation and God granting them their first wish.

Following is a link to a very good article from the Saturday 1st August edition of the Geelong Advertiser in Victoria, Australia regarding anti-discrimination legislation as discriminatory and Pastor Danny’s court case fought for freedom of speech and religion.

Attorney General Rob Hulls from the State Government of Victoria wants the exemptions removed from the Racial & Religious Tolerance Act presently given to religious organisations.  This will lead to Christian schools being forced to recruit non-Christian teachers, such as Homosexuals, Secular Humanists, Atheists, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, New Agers, etc.  Furthermore, the proposed Bill of Rights will gag Pastors, Leaders, and all followers of Christ from speaking openly against practices and lifestyles such as Homosexuality, Abortion, Witchcraft, other Religions, and the list goes on and on! Rabbis To Obama: Stop Pressing On Capital

‘You don’t want to enter list of those who raised a hand against Jerusalem’

President Obama boards Air Force OneJERUSALEM – Leading rabbis in Israel released a petition yesterday demanding President Obama cease pressuring the Jewish state on the issue of Jerusalem.

“Jerusalem is off limits, and we respectfully request that you stop all talk and pressure against Jewish construction in Jerusalem,” reads a petition signed by 250 members of the Rabbinical Congress for Peace.

The Congress is a coalition of Israeli rabbinic leaders, including pulpit rabbis and some of the most prestigious names in the Torah community.

“During these days when our nation mourns the destruction of Jerusalem and remembers in abhorrence those that destroyed it, we are sure that you, Mr. President, do not want to enter the list of those who raised a hand on Jerusalem and its Jewish inhabitants,” the rabbis write.

The rabbis state that besides the sanctity of Jerusalem, it is “totally illogical” to “even think” about negotiating with the Palestinians, pointing out “every piece of territory” taken over by the Palestinian Authority was turned into a sanctuary for terrorism and a launching for attacks against Jews. Americans Are Beginning To Understand The Left

US FlagThere is only one good thing about the Obama administration’s attempts to nationalize most health care and to begin to control Americans’ energy consumption through cap and trade: clarity about the left. These attempts are enabling more and more Americans to understand the thinking and therefore the danger of the left.

The left has its first president – with the possible exception of Franklin Delano Roosevelt – and for the first time controls the Democratic Party and both houses of Congress. In the name of compassion for the sick and the poor and in the name of preventing worldwide environmental catastrophe, it is attempting to remake America.

In so doing some principles of the left are becoming clearer to more Americans:

Principle 1: The left, as distinct from traditional liberals, is not, and has never been, interested in creating wealth. The left is no more interested in creating wealth than Christians are in creating Muslims or Muslims in creating Christians. The left is interested in redistributing wealth, not creating it. The left spends the wealth that private enterprise and entrepreneurial risk-taking individuals create. (more…)

In Europe An Octopus Now Has More Rights Than An Unborn Baby

What do you call a continent which cares more about the rights and wellbeing of crabs, lobsters, and even the common octopus, than it does about unborn babies? Just in case you cannot come up with anything, let me suggest a few possibilities: deranged, degenerate, despicable and delirious. And just to keep the alliteration going: dumb, really dumb.

This is how the New Scientist begins its coverage of this bizarre story: “Animal welfare legislation generally applies only to vertebrates. There are, however, moves to include invertebrates. Proposed changes to European law, for example, would extend welfare laws to crabs and lobsters. Up to now the only invertebrate protected is the common octopus.

“‘Invertebrate rights’ has become a campaigning issue. Advocates for Animals recently produced a report which concludes that there is ‘potential for experiencing pain and suffering’ in crustaceans. The group is particularly concerned about boiling lobsters alive. The wider public is also showing interest. Research supposedly demonstrating that hermit crabs feel and remember pain received worldwide news coverage” (more…)

WHAT happens when equal rights between men and women are so widely accepted that mainstream Australia hardly thinks about it? Surely it is time to acknowledge that anti-discrimination statutes have done their job?

Not according to the Victorian Government. It harbours the view that discrimination has got sophisticated – so hard to find under current law – that we must widen the law to catch more of it. One area in the State Government’s sights is religious bodies, and their schools. (more…)

Religious Exceptions – Church v State

The CrossWith the Victorian government currently considering all the ‘exceptions’ and exemptions’ in Victoria’s Equal Opportunity Act, things are starting to heat up!

The religious exceptions in the Act are causing a great deal of concern among many Christian groups.

Section 75 covers churches and religious schools, Section 76 covers religious schools and Section 77 covers individuals.

The exceptions say that religious bodies and so on are excepted from the anti-discrimination laws. They mean, for example, that Christian schools can specify that those they employ have Christian beliefs and lifestyles that are consistent with their Christian beliefs.

The Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee put out an Options Paper in May 2009 and asked for submissions. Over 1,000 were received and the Committee is now analysing them.   (more…)

When Color Trumps Christianity

President Obama hosted a reception at the White House celebrating LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Pride Month. Black Christians should take note and learn a few things about our black president.

As they say, we are what we do.

It tells us something that Mr. Obama had no time to host an event for the National Day of Prayer.

Nor did he have time to accept the invitation to convey greetings and a few remarks to the couple hundred thousand who came to Washington, as they do every January, for the March for Life.

However, the LGBT Pride event did make it onto the president’s busy schedule.

Here are parts of his remarks I think noteworthy for black Christians:

First, we now know that Mr. Obama buys into reasoning equating the homosexual political movement to the black civil rights movement: “… it’s not for me to tell you to be patient any more than it was for others to counsel patience to African-Americans who were petitioning for equal rights a half century ago.” (more…)

Bill Of Rights Attack On Majority Law Abiding Citizens?

The Federal Government plans to introduce a Bill of Rights, which at face value seems to be very good, in particular the way it’s packaged and promoted by clever agents of the Rudd Government. I heard one such agent say on TV last week, ‘there are 40,000 submissions and I guess most of them support the bill.” However, this is not true. According to information I have received from a person within the Government who does not agree with this bill, most submissions are against it.
 
Currently across Australia, there are many one-track minded forums promoting how good this bill is.  It seems we are reliving the introduction of the Racial & Religious Vilification Laws all over again. The Government held similar forums across Victoria where many people were in opposition to them. Although there was around 80% of submissions against, the Government passed the Racial & Religious Vilification Laws anyway.
 
I wonder why the Government calls for submissions and conducts forums, because it seems their bills will pass anyway. Is it all a big farce to make the public think they are a free and democratic Government run by the people.? In reality the Left-Wing secular agendas (also promoted by the United Nations) will be carried out anyway, whether the rest of us Aussies like it or not.

Salt Shakers: Islam As The Model For Refugee Law!

The United Nations is increasingly supporting and promoting Islam. This is partly due to the influence of the Islamic nations that are part of the UN – they work together as the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which has 57 ‘member states’. The OIC notes “Every year the United Nations General Assembly adopts a resolution on ‘Cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of the Islamic Conference’.”

Defamation of ‘Religion’

In March 2009 the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) voted to condemn the ‘defamation of religion’.
In effect this really meant condemning the criticism of Islam. Western nations refused to support the resolution because it focused on condemning criticism of Islam.

Ironically the motion was supported by UNHRC members China, Cuba, Russia and all the nations belonging to the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

When China and Cuba are looking after ‘human rights’ we have a problem! (more…)

Pas Tony Hallo, a minister with the AOG for 40 years and formally the Senior Pastor of possibly the biggest church in Townsville, ministered the prophetic Word of the Lord, challenging the people of God with the urgency of getting ready for the second coming of Jesus!  This man of God, who had travelled to many nations and spent much time in Israel, had the people at the edge of their seats as they soaked in the anointed Word and presence of the Lord God of Israel!

Obama’s Attack On Our Christian Heritage

Every Fourth of July we celebrate that day 233 years ago when 56 men voted for American independence, but many do not know that it was not until Aug. 2 of 1776 that the Declaration of Independence was formally signed by most of the delegates to the Second Continental Congress. In a speech given at Independence Hall on the evening of Aug. 1, 1776, Samuel Adams – often called the Father of the American Revolution – spoke to an assembled crowd about the spiritual and religious significance of what he and others had done on July 4th:

We have explored the temple of royalty, and found that the idol we have bowed down to, has eyes which see not, ears that hear not our prayers, and a heart like the nether millstone. We have this day restored the Sovereign, to whom alone men ought to be obedient. He reigns in Heaven, and with a propitious eye beholds his subjects assuming that freedom of thought, and dignity of self-direction which He bestowed on them. PETER Costello was in Jerusalem last week, just a few metres from where Christ rose from the dead, when he heard a voice.

“Mate,” it said.

“Mate, ya gotta take over the leadership.”

It was just another tourist who’d recognised the former treasurer as the Messiah, despite his cunning disguise of T-shirt and daggy shorts.

But what he told Costello close by the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was no more than what far better connected Liberals were telling him, too, in calls, emails and text messages to their last hope, over in Israel. Never have I seen a BlackBerry wink so furiously.
