Passion Play Drew 20,000 Onlookers in London’s Trafalgar Square

Passion of the Christby Michael Ireland : Apr 7, 2010 : ASSIST News

“One scene in particular captures people,..It is the occasion where Jesus asks Peter three times whether he loves him and three times Peter says yes. Then the cock crows, because Peter did deny him once. He is forgiven, and Jesus turns to the audiences and says: ‘Be bold, love my Church.’ There’s not a dry eye. One time I was standing by this tall man…and he was crying his eyes out.”

(London, UK)—Roman soldiers dressed in authentic-styled armor of the 12th Legion, tramped through Trafalgar Square in the center of London on Good Friday afternoon, as the story of the Passion of Jesus was re-enacted by a cast of more than 100. According to Ind.Catholic News.com, the Good Friday production by the Wintershall Estate theatre company, drew an estimated audience of up to 20,000 people, among them families, church groups and tourists, who, in spite of showery weather, crammed onto steps around the Square and the front of the National Gallery for both the dress rehearsal and main performance.

The Catholic website says some members of the audience were recruited in the crowd scenes.

The drama, accompanied by a beautiful musical score, depicted some of the key events in the life of Jesus (played by actor Simon Hemingway-shown on left)—scenes of miracles, his entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, driving the shopkeepers from the Temple, the Last Supper, his betrayal and trial, death and Resurrection. UK Christians Celebrate Victory over Equality Bill that would have Robbed Them of Religious Freedom

House of Lords by Teresa Neumann : Jan 29, 2010 : Jenna Lyle – Christian Today

“This is a great day for religious liberty in the United Kingdom…We give thanks to God for the outcome, and we continue to pray for our Government, as Scripture exhorts us to do, that God would bless their counsels.”

(London, England)—Christian Today has reported on the answer to many Christians’ prayers after the House of Lords on Monday defeated changes to a law that would have required church groups to hire homosexuals or others whose manner of life is inconsistent with their teaching.

Lady O’Cathain, whose amendment to the Equality Bill specified an exemption for religious groups to equality employment laws, said: “I know that very many Christians were praying that justice would prevail as the House of Lords voted on this important issue….We give thanks to God for the outcome, and we continue to pray for our Government, as Scripture exhorts us to do, that God would bless their counsels.” (Photo: House of Lords-BBC)

24-7 Prayer Marks Tenth Anniversary With London Event

9 February 2010 – Adrienne S. Gaines – Charisma News Online

A Britain-based ministry that has sparked a global movement of nonstop prayer is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week.

On Saturday, 24-7 Prayer is hosting an Iam10 celebration in London, where attendees will reflect on the last decade, spend time in prayer and worship, and participate in training opportunities.

“Over the last year or so, we feel that God has been marking the race out more clearly ahead of us, giving us fresh vision and direction, and IAM10 feels like the perfect time to ‘go public’ and explore this together,” the ministry stated on its Web site. “Having briefly reflected on the past ten years together, we will look ahead to the next ten, and commit ourselves to following wherever the Lord leads us-probably in many wild, pioneering ways.”

Launched in Chichester, England, 24-7 Prayer has seen prayer rooms form in 100 nations since February 2000, when founder Pete Greig called for a year of unbroken prayer. Today, intercessors of all ages meet in places as diverse as the U.S. Naval Academy, the British Parliament and a punk festival in Germany to pray in one-hour shifts for local and global concerns.

Christianity being squeezed out in the name of ‘equality’, Archbishop of York warns

Dr John SentamuBy Steve Doughty 4th February 2010

Christianity is being wiped out from public life in the name of equality, the Archbishop of York said yesterday.

Dr John Sentamu accused politicians and others of trying to sideline religion by promoting their false idea of ‘tolerance’.

He cited Labour’s equality laws as an attack on the freedoms of churches.

Attempts to denigrate church schools and ban the mention of Christmas in favour of bland ‘Winterval’ celebrations were also part of a drive to censor Christianity, he said.

The Archbishop’s comments followed the Pope’s unprecedented attack on Harriet Harman’s Equality Bill earlier this week.

Benedict XVI called the proposed legislation ‘unjust’, saying it restricted religious freedom and violated ‘the natural law’  -  in other words, Christian teaching.

ENGLAND HAS CEDED ITS SOVEREIGNTY TO THE EUROPEAN UNION-AUSTRALIA WILL BE NEXT IF THE LISBON TREATY IS SIGNED BY KEVIN RUDD.

As of 1st December 2009, England no longer exists as a sovereign country. Gordon Brown has signed England over to the European Union and the emerging One World Government. He did this by ratifying the Lisbon Treaty.

There has been huge opposition and uproar from the English people who were not given any opportunity to vote or to have a say in the matter despite Gordon Brown promising that they would be given a referendum to decide the matter. Gordon Brown would not give the public information about the ETS and the treaty, he would not answer questions, he did not explain the pros and cons to the people and he responded with insults and name calling such as: deniers, flat earthers, rebels, skeptics, dissenters etc. etc.
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR??

WHERE ARE THE MEDIA REPORTS ABOUT THIS HUGE AND SIGNIFICANT EVENT? THIS IS BIG NEWS OVERSEAS AND WE IN AUSTRALIA HAVE HEARD NOTHING ABOUT IT.

THIS IS WHAT KEVIN RUDD INTENDS TO DO TO AUSTRALIA AT COPENHAGEN. IF NOT AT COPENHAGEN, HE WILL TRY TO DO IT AT A LATER DATE.

GLOBAL WARMING, THE ETS, CLIMATE CHANGE ARE A LIE AND AN EXCUSE TO SIGN THIS LISBON TREATY.

On 19th November 2009, Herman Van Rompuy was appointed (not elected by the public) as the first permanent president of the European Union. In his acceptance speech, which can be found on the web by googling “Herman Van Rompuy”, he says that with the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty at Copenhagen, the New World Order (One World Government) will come into force.

Copenhagen climate summit in disarray after ‘Danish text’ leak

The UN Copenhagen climate talks are in disarray today after developing countries reacted furiously to leaked documents. John Vidal in Copenhagen – guardian.co.uk – Tuesday 8 December 2009

Developing countries react furiously to leaked draft agreement that would hand more power to rich nations, sideline the UN’s negotiating role and abandon the Kyoto protocol

The UN Copenhagen climate talks are in disarray today after developing countries reacted furiously to leaked documents.

The UN Copenhagen climate talks are in disarray today after developing countries reacted furiously to leaked documents that show world leaders will next week be asked to sign an agreement that hands more power to rich countries and sidelines the UN’s role in all future climate change negotiations.

The document is also being interpreted by developing countries as setting unequal limits on per capita carbon emissions for developed and developing countries in 2050; meaning that people in rich countries would be permitted to emit nearly twice as much under the proposals.

The so-called Danish text, a secret draft agreement worked on by a group of individuals known as “the circle of commitment” – but understood to include the UK, US and Denmark – has only been shown to a handful of countries since it was finalised this week. (more…)

Praise God for Free Speech Victory

by Andrea Minichiello Williams of Christian Concern for our Nation in the UK

Dear Friends and Supporters

We are writing with wonderful news of deliverance from the pernicious attempt by the Government last night (11th November) to remove Lord Waddington’s free speech shield from the face of the laws of this land.

In a remarkable debate the House of Lords stood firm against the Government’s fourth attempt to impose its will upon them. Thanks to their steadfastness the vital democratic right to free speech was upheld, the police will have clarity about cases they do not need to investigate and ordinary, peaceful Christians and others who wish to be free to express orthodox Christian views on sexual ethics will not have their freedom so to do unreasonably interfered with.

‘Worship God Quietly’ – Lambeth Council Orders Church

Andrea Minichiello Williams – Christian Legal Centre

A LONDON church has been told by Lambeth Council to reduce the volume of its worship.

In an extraordinary  decision, All Nations Church in Kennington, South London, has been served with a noise abatement notice by Lambeth council after complaints from a couple of local residents about the level of noise coming from the church.

This is the first complaint that the church has received since it began meeting at the premises in the 1960s. Church leaders have been ordered not to amplify its music or sermons – something which will make worship very difficult for the 600-strong congregation  – some of whom are elderly and hard of hearing.

The decision, which imposes a restriction on the freedom of expression of religion will, according to one of the church’s pastors, Victor Jibuike, seriously affect the congregation and potentially mean that some members will leave and worship elsewhere – something he does not want to see.

Christian Pupils Outnumbered By Muslims Even In Roman Catholic Schools

telegraph.co.uk ^ | August 14, 2009 | Martin Beckford

Christian pupils are now outnumbered by Muslims at Roman Catholic schools in some parts of England.

A survey has found 24 Catholic primary schools in the North West and the Midlands teach a minority of churchgoing children.

Fewer than one in 10 children are Catholic at one school in Birmingham, while the Church is ending its involvement with a similar establishment in Blackburn.

Controversial Church Of England Bishop Nazir-Ali Tells Gays To ‘Change And Repent’

By Mail On Sunday Reporter

Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-AliA Church of England bishop urged homosexuals to ‘repent and be changed’, as he joins a coalition of conservative parishes opposed to single-sex unions.

In an interview with The Sunday Telegraph, The Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali, said people who stray from traditional Bible teachings ‘do not share the same faith’.

The coalition, which has been labelled a ‘church within a church’, claims to have the support of the Queen. Organisers said she had sent a message to leaders of the movement, saying she understood their concern about the future of the Anglican Communion.

Row: the comments from Bishop of Rochester, Dr Michael Nazir-Ali will be seen as a direct challenge to the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Dr Nazir-Ali spoke after more than half a million people, including the Prime Minister’s wife Sarah Brown, took to the streets of London yesterday to celebrate gay culture at the annual Pride festival. (more…)

Members Of UK Parliament Say They Need The Prayers Of The Christian Community

By Aimee Herd – Inspire Magazine

“Christians are called to serve and lead in politics and government – and prayer is where we need to start. With the Bible, prayer needs to be shaping and guiding our words and actions as we obey the call to disciple the nations for Christ.”

(United Kingdom)—As part of the annual Week of Prayer for Parliament and Whitehall—which has the support of MPs and Peers from each of the major political parties—Inspire Magazine reports that many churches around the UK and across the world will be praying through the nights and even through the entire week.

To facilitate the prayer, a simple prayer resource pack has been produced to help Christians pray effectively for their governmental leaders. According to the report, the resources provide inspiration and opportunity for Christians to get involved and be creative in praying for politics, regardless of political viewpoints. (more…)

Anti-Christian Britain

Chuch ColsonBy Chuck Colson

As you may know, in Islamic countries such as Afghanistan, converting from Islam to Christianity is a crime punishable by death. While they don’t go that far, certain Indian states and Nepal erect formidable hurdles for would-be converts to Christianity.

And then there’s the United Kingdom.

In 2007, a 16-year-old girl was placed into foster care after being assaulted by a family member. Her foster mother had taken care of 80 foster kids over 10 years. She rented a farmhouse and was, by all accounts, completely committed to the well-being of the children placed under her care.

She is also a practicing Anglican Christian. This hadn’t been a problem. No one had ever accused her of taking advantage of her relationship to the girls for proselytizing.

The same is true of the 16-year-old in question. Still, the girl became interested in Christianity on her own; said that she wanted to attend church; and expressed a desire to be baptized. For the girl, baptism was a “washing away of the horrible things she had been through and a symbol of a new start.” (more…)

When A Bishop Has To Leave The Church Of England To Stand Up For Christians, What Hope Is Left For Britain?

By Melanie Phillips, writing in the Daily Mail

Shock: Michael Nazir-Ali is leaving his post as the Bishop of Rochester The resignation of Michael Nazir-Ali as Bishop of Rochester is a terrible blow, not just for the Church of England but for Britain.
The bishop says he is resigning so that he can work for endangered or beleaguered Christian minorities both abroad and in the UK.
What a shocking rebuke to the church, that he has to leave his post of influence and authority as a bishop in order to carry out the church’s core duty to defend its own against attack.
Shocking – but hardly surprising. Across the world, in countries such as Nigeria and Sudan, millions of Christians are being persecuted at the hands of militant Islam, with forced conversions, the burning of churches and widespread violence.

Yet in the face of this global onslaught, the Church of England makes scarcely a peep of protest.
Worse still, when Dr Nazir-Ali warned last year that Islamic extremists had created ‘no-go areas’ across Britain where non-Muslims faced intimidation, he was disowned by his fellow churchmen who all but declared that he was a liar – even though he was telling the truth. (more…)
