Celebrities, Charlatans And The Kingdom Of God

By Bill Muehlenberg

It is both an amazing and a humbling truth that God has for some reason decided that his work in this world would largely be carried out by you and me. He has said that we his people will help to build his Kingdom. Despite our fallen, frail and fickle natures, he has wondrously and mysteriously chosen us to help get the job done.

That is an incredible thought. As Paul puts it in 2 Corinthians 4:7, we have this treasure (the glory of God) in earthen vessels (our own weak and stumbling selves). Imagine the humility and grace of God, to entrust this most vital of tasks to us.

It is almost as if I had a multi-million dollar business deal to stitch together, and I entrusted the whole job to a five-year-old boy. Or as if I must sit a rigorous PhD entrance exam, and I ask a four-year-old girl to take it for me. Or as if I choose to entrust the flying of a 747 to a three-year-old boy. (more…)

Christians Respond To Crisis In Myanmar

By Joshua Goldberg

As the worst cyclone and natural disaster to hit since the South East Asian tsunami crisis nearly four years ago continues to wreck havoc and bring unspeakable destruction among the people of Myanmar, Christian groups have been mobilized into action, carrying the burden of the Lord to all those in need.

World Vision is providing clean water and other relief supplies in Myanmar.Gospel for Asia (GFA), which has more than 400 churches and over 200 missions scattered throughout the nation, has been among the first groups to respond to the crisis, which has left an estimated 40,000 either dead or missing. The group has temporarily turned their Bible College in the capital of Rangoon into a makeshift shelter for over dozens of people.

Through GFA, dozens of villagers who have lost their homes and all their belongings are now being shown the love of Christ through the careless giving of food, water, and shelter. (more…)

Senior Judge Says British Family Life Is “In Meltdown”

“Family breakdown ‘ a cancer’ behind almost every evil affecting the country”

A senior Family Division judge, Mr Justice Sir Paul Coleridge (58), who presides over family courts in the South-West, has launched an outspoken and devastating attack on the state of family life in Britain – and blamed the government for the breakdown of society. He made his remarks last Saturday (5 April) in a speech to family lawyers. The judge has been married for 35 years and has three children.

Using graphic language, he spoke of an ‘epidemic’ of family failures. He warned that children born into broken homes are increasingly turning to drink, drugs and crime. (more…)

Iran’s Unprecedented Crackdown On Youth Is Driving Them To Christ

By Teresa Neumann

Sat 7 Work“Viewers have said that SAT-7 PARS is their only source of Christian teaching, training and encouragement. Others have worked with PARS counselors to learn how they can become followers of Christ, so much so, that more counselors were needed this year.”

(Iran)—Mission Network News reports that the length and severity of a crackdown in security targeting thousands of women and youth for violating Sharia law is unprecedented in the Islamic republic in recent years; but the harsh tactics may be having the opposite effect on Iran’s youth says David Harder of SAT-7, a Farsi-language, Christian satellite TV channel. Young Girl Goes To Heavenly Surgery Room; Receives Healing From Crippling Diseases

By Teresa Neumann – BCN Exclusive

Kelsey HaysA desperate missionary family, unfamiliar with healing revivals, takes their daughter to Lakeland where she has an encounter with Jesus.

(Lakeland, Florida)—Pastor Stephen Strader of Ignited Church in Lakeland, Florida, where a massive revival has broken out, contacted Breaking Christian News about an amazing healing that took place there on Saturday, April 26, in which 14-year-old Kelsey Hays was healed from multiple immune diseases.

I telephoned Kelsey’s mother, Lesley, of Kansas City, Missouri, on Tuesday, April 29, to ask her details of what happened. She and Kelsey were still in Lakeland, preparing to fly back to Kansas City where they attend the International House of Prayer (IHOP). (more…)

When Muslims Become Christians

Church & Mosque in Jerusalem

There’s a widespread belief that the penalty for leaving Islam is death – hence, perhaps, the killing of a British teacher last week. But Shiraz Maher believes attitudes may be softening.

Ziya Meral’s parents disowned him when he converted from Islam to Christianity.

“They said ‘go away, you’re not our son.’ They told people I died in an accident rather than having the shame of their son leaving Islam.”  (more…)

Christian Broadcaster Reaching Unprecedented Numbers Of Iranian Youth

By Joshua Goldberg: Christian Post Reporter

As young people in Iran find themselves trapped between rising political instability, the harsh systems of Islamic Sharia laws that increasingly govern and control their lives, as well as arrests and “public security” crackdowns, a Christian satellite station is providing them with rest and winning their hearts for the Lord.

SAT-7, a Middle Eastern Christian satellite station, says it has reached unprecedented numbers of young people in the region with its 24-hour SAT-7 PARS Farsi language broadcasts. (more…)

Israel’s 60th Celebration Report – May 13th 2008

Dear Family and Friends in Christ,

Part Of The Crowd In AttendanceI am not sure where to start, as my heart is almost totally overwhelmed with thanksgiving and complete joy! Seeing God move and knit together so many hearts at the celebration at the ‘Standing With Israel’ evening was such a sight! It was a visual experience – glorious banners expressing different aspects of the names of God. You could actually see the love transmitted from one to another, as God’s grace laced the words shared. The room buzzed with murmured approval as statements concerning Israel’s journey unfolded through the different speakers, many overwhelmed by what they saw and heard. David Mandel, Danny Lamm, Danny Nalliah, John Searle, Barry Rodgers

The event was held at the Performing Art Centre, Glen Eira College in Caulfield, right in the heart of the Jewish community. The hall was filled to overflowing with 350 – 400 people, drawn from all walks of life, with an obvious intense love for the nation of Israel. There were many Messianic Jews in attendance, along with many Jews from the immediate area. (more…)

Christians Stand With Nation Of Israel

Christians will stand to show support and solidarity for the 60th anniversary of the State of Israel in a celebration service with special guest speaker, Dr Danny Lamm, from the State Zionist Council of Victoria, and other Australian Jewish leaders on the eve of the Jewish nation’s birthday.
The legendary sounds of the shofar will resound as the cake is cut, Jewish songs and dances are performed and the Jewish Tanakh Scriptures are read. A representation of Light Horsemen in full regalia will also be a centerpiece of the celebration service designed to honour not only the 60th anniversary of the nation of Israel but also the important role Australia’s Light Horsemen played in the liberation of Beersheba in 1917.

The night at the Performing Art Centre, Glen Eira College, 76 Booran Rd, Caulfield  South on Tuesday 13 May 2008 at 7.30pm is hosted by interdenominational ministry, Catch the  Fire Ministries and spearheaded by Pastor Danny Nalliah. (more…)

Korean President Lee Is Seen As A Man Of Faith

By Dan Wooding: Assist News/Baptist Press

Korean PresidentHe has been encouraged to have a time of prayer with President Bush and Laura Bush at their summit.

“Some say it is a new day in South Korea. After a landslide election in November, Myung-Bak Lee was sworn into office on February 19.”

So wrote Ann Lovell, a media worker based in Seoul with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board in a story for Baptist Press. She continued, “This has been good news for many of South Korea’s Christian leaders since Lee also is a member of the 70,000 member Somang Presbyterian Church in Seoul. One of the president’s chief advocates is Billy Kim, president of South Korea’s Far East Broadcasting Company and pastor of Suwon Central Baptist Church from 1960-2004. Kim, a former Baptist World Alliance president regarded as one of the world’s most influential Christian leaders, first earned international attention when he served as an interpreter for the 1973 Billy Graham crusade. Reaping What We Have Sown As The Church In Australia

Dear Family and Friends in Christ,

Both as the Church and a Nation,  we are certainly reaping what we have sown in the last Federal Election 2007!

Over the last several days, I’m sure you watched incredible television reports and read in the newspapers that the homosexual community is about to receive their full rights across Australia, thanks to the liberal thinking of the new Federal Labor Government. Is this really the Government many Christian leaders promoted as a viable alternative to the previous government we had? Frankly, I need to ask the question, ‘Are those Christian leaders who play bipartisan politics,  just trying to play both sides of politics to protect their reputation, or are they really wanting to please a righteous and holy God?’ (more…)

‘The Emergent Church’: A Dangerous Counterfeit

By Greg Laurie,

Greg LaurieAs a 17-year-old boy, I had looked for truth and answers in this world and found none. Then, to my own amazement, I found myself completely won over by the bold, unashamed witness of a group of committed Christians on my high school campus.

People could have tried to be cool and win me over, but it would have never worked. I’d had enough of “cool” in the crazy home I was raised in to make me choke. I had pretty much seen it all, and nothing to me was lamer than people trying too hard to be cool. (more…)

Saluting The ANZACS And Thanking God For Rain

Dear Family and Friends in Christ,
 Backyard
Yes, it is ANZAC day, once again when we salute our war heroes for the sacrifices they made in protecting our nation.  Very often we forget things quite quickly as we live in this fast moving, ever changing time-frame of 2008. But I am sure, if you think back, you will recall that last year as we were approaching ANZAC day, many regions in  our Nation were facing a major crisis with severe drought, with bush fires burning and threatening in many places. In Victoria, some country towns, such as King Lake and Halls Gap (and other locations) were almost consumed by fire and the residences were asked to leave their homes on ANZAC day 2007. (more…)
