The Latest Bill to Approach the House – Why “Hate Crimes” Legislation is Such a Concern

“It is conceivable that preaching or teaching against homosexual conduct could be prosecuted as conspiracy to commit a hate crime.”

No one with reasonable compassion for another, especially a Christian, would want to commit or perpetuate a hate crime. On the surface, legislation that prosecutes those who do such things seems like a positive thing. However, the hate crime legislation approaching the U.S. House of Representatives of late, similar to that which was wrestled with in the UK, could force constraints on any teaching or preaching not favorable toward homosexuality.

“Why should it be permissible for an employee standing around the water cooler to declare that ‘Tiger Woods is god,’ but a firing offense for him to say ‘Jesus is Lord?’ These are the kinds of contradictions we are trying to address.”

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales told leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention in Nashville, on February 20, that the Department of Justice is enacting a program called the First Freedom Project that would increase education about religious discrimination through training seminars held throughout the country over the next few months. Survey Respondents Say 4 to 1 That New Zealand is a Christian Country

A Day of History making as denominations lay aside their differences, unite, and pray for the nation

It was a day of “history making” in Melbourne after more than Nearly 5,000 Christians Gather to Pray4000 people turned up for the united Australia Day prayer rally at Festival Hall in West Melbourne on Australia Day today to pray for the land and view the Prime Minister’s personal address to them.

Indigenous community was also thanked and acknowledged for “opening up” Australia.

The Crowd Pray TogetherCatch the Fire Ministries president Danny Nalliah, who hosted the major prayer event, said it was a day of “history making” in a never before seen meeting where denominational differences were cast aside. He said the entire place erupted into cheers after the Prime Minister’s message was aired. (more…)

African Anglicans Say Gay Bishops Affirmation ‘Shatters Hopes of Reconciliation’

Anglican leaders in Africa have expressed their outrage over the Church of England’s decision to approve gay bishops in its order, saying that the decision could put an end to hopes of healing broken relationships in the Communion.

Archbishop Nicholas Okoh of Nigeria, one of the world’s largest provinces of the Anglican Communion with 17 million members, said that the affirmation of gay bishops “could very well shatter whatever hopes we had for healing and reconciliation within our beloved Communion,” Reuters reported.

Okoh added that the Church of England has given into “the contemporary idols of secularism and moral expediency,” and that it is “one step removed from the moral precipice we have already witnessed in The Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church in Canada.”

Last week, the House of Bishops of the Church of England announced that it had internally decided to allow gay clergy to serve as bishops if they promise a life of celibacy, even if they are in a same-sex civil partnership.
