Gospel For Asia Workers Helping Sri Lankans Displaced By Civil War

By News Release

Sri Lankan FlagThere are reports of individual Believers ministering to the people in the camps.

(Carrollton, TX)—Gospel for Asia-supported missionaries, workers and lay leaders are reaching out to thousands of Sri Lankans displaced by the most recent battles between the government and the Tamil Tigers rebel group. The United Nations estimates that about 50,000 civilians are trapped by the conflict. They are crowded onto a tiny strip of land that has been designated by the government as a “safe zone.”

Workers representing GFA are providing for the needs of people in the government-run camps. The workers are delivering sandals for the people, many of whom wore out their own sandals walking to the camps. They are also providing books for the makeshift schools operating in the camps, along with food. (more…)

UN Security Council Fails to Act While Civilians Suffer

(New York, May 12, 2009) – New satellite imagery and eyewitness accounts contradict Sri Lankan government claims that its armed forces are no longer using heavy weapons in the densely populated conflict area in northern Sri Lanka, Human Rights Watch said today.

Local sources have reported that more than 400 civilians have been killed and more than 1,000 wounded since May 9, 2009, as a result of artillery attacks on the thin coastal strip where fighting continues between government forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). (more…)

UN Security Council Should Initiate Commission of Inquiry

(New York, April 20, 2009) – An expected major attack following the Sri Lankan government’s “final warning” to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam underscores the need for heightened measures to minimize civilian casualties, Human Rights Watch said today. The continuing laws of war violations by both the Sri Lankan army and the LTTE indicate the need for a United Nations commission of inquiry to investigate war crimes by both sides, Human Rights Watch said. Only If The British Stayed In Sri Lanka – It Could Have Been Another Australia

By Pr Danny Nalliah
President – Catch The Fire Ministries Inc.

Sri Lankan FlagDear Friends and Family in Christ around the World,

I have always wondered whether it was a big mistake Sri Lanka made when it got its independence from the British in 1948. Then known as Ceylon and very famous for its Ceylon Tea, the nation now called Sri Lanka has been in civil conflict for the past 50+ years.  Thank God for the British who set foot on Australia some 200 years ago and made it a wonderful land to live in! I am so happy that they did not leave Australia.  As a Sri Lankan born Aussie, I must say we should be so grateful  for our great Nation.

Tea Plantations of Sri LankaMy parents studied under the British administration in Sri Lanka in a season when all people studied in English, and spoke English as their first language. They never looked at each other as a particular race group but rather as fellow Ceylonese.

As soon as the British left in 1948,  corrupt power hungry Government officials divided the once united country, giving some groups more privileges than others, and leaving minorities in the country to languish. This sparked off ethnic tensions and communal violence, thus requiring Sinhalese to study in Sinhalese and Tamils to study in Tamil. This divided a once united community in Sri Lanka, and made it a Sinhalese-Buddhist nation. (more…)

ANTI-CONVERSION BILL Delayed In Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan FlagPastor Danny NalliahDear Family and Friends in Christ,

I wish to convey my sincere appreciation to all who prayed and acted in order to stop the above bill from getting through the Parliament of Sri Lanka. Below is a report I received a few days ago. Further, I personally spoke to several Christian leaders and others who have now advised me that the President has personally assured some of them that he will not let it pass through Parliament.

The delay tactic is because the President is planning on calling for elections this year and would dissolve Parliament before that. If this happens, all existing bills scheduled to go through Parliament will be automatically cancelled. (more…)

Pastor Danny And His Family’s Recent Holiday to Singapore, Sri Lanka, And Philippines

With The Children At The Girls HomeAll The Children In The Feeding Program Enjoying Their Lunch, Which For Most Of Them, Is Their Only MealDear Friends and Family in Christ,

We thank the Lord that our family was very blessed to visit Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines over the recent Christmas holiday.

Most of our time in Sri Lanka was spent with family and friends over Christmas. We also has the opportunity to visit the orphanages and the feeding program for 150 children that we support at CTFM.

Additionally, I was able to minister to 60 pastors and Christian leaders who came together from many denominations and parts of Sri Lanka to catch the corporate vision of united prayer for the nation’s transformation in the Kingdom of God.

Please continue to pray for God’s mighty hand to heal this nation and to restore peace to its people. (more…)

Urgent Action Required: Sri Lanka Anti-Conversion Bill

Ministers on stage at the prayer rally against the Anti-Conversion BillDear Family and Friends in Christ,

We returned from Sri Lanka 2 weeks ago, as we were there for over a month.  My trip was primarily a holiday, but I had the opportunity to spend time with many church leaders from many Christian denominations.

4000+ Sri Lankan Christians protest against Anti Conversion Bill in ColomboIt was brought to my attention that the Anti-Conversion Bill was back in the Sri Lankan Parliament and if passed would cause major problems for the church and those wanting to embrace Christianity. This unjust bill raised its head under the former government, but was put off mainly because of united prayer and action initiated by many Christian organizations, ministries, churches, and believers around the world.

Many lobbied their respective Sri Lankan Embassy in the country they lived in. Also I personally spent much time in the US State Department along with my US counterparts, who work on Christian Human Rights Issues, to stop the Anti-Conversion Bill from going through. The end result was that the then president The Hon Chandrika B Kumaratunge did not let it get through Parliament. (more…)

Although Doom & Gloom Is Predicted For 2009, You Can Shine With The Light Of Jesus!

Dear family and friends in Christ,

I hope you had a great Christmas season and fantastic start to the New Year!

My family and I are having an absolutely wonderful time on holiday in Sri Lanka. As I watch the world news media with many political and economic leaders predicting a ‘BLACK YEAR IN 2009’, I continue to prayerfully seek the Lord for what He is saying and planning for 2009!

Although many financial experts are forecasting a worsening of the economic crisis with thousands and thousands of people losing their jobs around the world, the following word from the Lord keeps coming to me as I wait on Him in prayer and in His Word, ‘SOULS, SOULS, SOULS’!  (more…)

Sri Lanka – 21st September – A Call To Prayer

Sri Lanka In NeedDear Friends and Family in Christ,   (from Pastor Danny)

As I’ve been crying out in persistent prayer to the Lord for Australia’s Transformation, I’ve been constantly mindful of my home country of birth, Sri Lanka, (currently both the families of my wife and I are living there) which has been devastated by civil war for the past 25 years.Sri Lanka Leaflet

I feel at times for Sri Lanka as Nehemiah felt for Jerusalem, “Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.” When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.” Nehemiah 1:3-4
