Human Rights Activist: Many Christians ‘Ignorant’ of Extent of Persecution

By Michael Gryboski , Christian Post Reporter – January 9, 2013

WASHINGTON – A human rights activist with more than 25 years’ experience in ministering to persecuted Christians said Tuesday that many Christians are “ignorant” of the extent of persecution globally.

Dr. Ron Boyd-MacMilan, chief strategy officer for Open Doors International, told The Christian Post that the church in America and elsewhere should spread greater awareness of what is happening to Christians in many parts of the world.

“I think the key thing though is that the church needs to get its story out to the worldwide church better,” said Boyd-MacMilan. “There are still far too many Christians in the world that are either just ignorant or even deliberately so of the true extent of Christian persecution.”

Boyd-MacMilan also told CP that he felt that “we can get out our story better, that there are literally hundreds of millions of Christians in the world who cannot exercise their freedom of worship.”

His remarks came as he was one of two featured speakers at a press conference on Tuesday morning sponsored by Open Doors at the First Amendment Lounge of the National Press Club. There were two major themes of the event: first was the release of Open Doors’ annual “World Watch List” which ranks the countries where persecution of Christians is severest.

12 Hot Spots for Holy Ghost Revivals

Charisma News – J. Lee Grady- 11/23/2012

The Holy Spirit is working in places you might never expect. The move of God happening in these 12 locations is notable, and these hot spots are great places for evangelists and missionaries to set their sights.

China.  Nothing in the history of missions rivals the success story that is China. Mao Zedong tried to wipe out Christian faith in the 1970s when there were only 2.7 million believers. Today, the most conservative estimate is that China had 75 million believers in 2010. A few years ago the greatest growth was among rural “house churches.” Today Christianity is also growing in China’s major cities, and charismatic renewal has infiltrated state-sponsored churches.

India. Despite language barriers, tribal divisions and violent attacks by Hindus, indigenous church-planting movements have flourished all over India in the last 40 years. Fifteen years ago in Andhra Pradesh, a woman who heard a gospel radio broadcast, asked if someone could plant a church in her remote village. Within the first year after a pastor came, the church had 75 converts. After a church building was constructed in 1994, this church planted 125 churches with a combined membership of more than 5,000. This type of growth is occurring throughout India today.

Iran. Despite crackdowns on church gatherings, arrests of pastors and confiscation of Christian videotapes and other materials, Iranian believers are finding increased openness to the gospel in this stronghold of Shiite Islam. The leader of one indigenous ministry says, “Everyone we share the gospel with wants to become a Christian.” His ministry actually considered limiting outreach until it could obtain more Bibles and train workers to handle the overwhelming response. A Prophetic Word for 2013: Return to Antioch

Prophetic Insight from Charisma – Jennifer LeClaire – 09/01/2013

Charisma News Editor Jennifer LeClaire is sounding the alarm with a clear prophetic directive to leave behind the Hollywood Christianity, the pillow prophets, the prosper-me gospel.

I was taking a long drive from South Florida to Orlando, praying in the Spirit, and asking the Lord to reveal some prophetic direction for 2013. I must have prayed in the Spirit for two hours before I heard these three words: “Return to Antioch.”

With a long, dark stretch of highway still in front of me, I could not readily dive into Scripture to seek understanding about what the Holy Spirit was trying to tell me. So I continued praying in the Spirit and meditating on those three words: “Return to Antioch.”

When I opened my Bible to Acts 14, prophetic revelation for the body of Christ—particularly the leadership of the body of Christ—began to unfold:

When Paul and Barnabas were serving together in the mission fields, they made a return visit to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch. With the return to Antioch, they had a clear mandate: to “strengthen the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, ‘We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God’” (Acts 14:22).

I like how the Amplified Bible draws out this verse: “Establishing and strengthening the souls and the hearts of the disciples, urging and warning and encouraging them to stand firm in the faith, and [telling them] that it is through many hardships and tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”

And the Message Bible puts it this way: “putting muscle and sinew in the lives of the disciples, urging them to stick with what they had begun to believe and not quit, making it clear to them that it wouldn’t be easy: ‘Anyone signing up for the kingdom of God has to go through plenty of hard times’.”

Why President Obama Does Not Defend Persecuted Christians – By Egyptian Christian Author

By MidEast Christian News – January 13, 2013

Writing in the monthly conservative Townhall Magazine, Michael Youssef has asked why President Obama, a self-proclaimed Christian, has failed to defend the cause of the harassed and persecuted Christians around the world.

Dr. Michael Youssef, an Egyptian-born U.S. citizen who has authored 27 books including ‘Blindsided: The Radical Islamic Conquest,’ examines Obama’s dealings with Egypt over the past two years.

In his article, Youssef suggests a number of factors that could explain Obama’s position regarding Christians around the world. He says that on the outbreak of the January 2011 uprising, Obama urged Mubarak to step down. In fact, writes Youssef, Mubarak was a secular and capitalist dictator and his regime was corrupt for sure. However even after Mubarak’s departure, the situation has not changed and corruption is still present under what Youssef calls “the Islamic dictator who replaced Mubarak.”

The presidential elections (May 2012) ended by a narrow victory for Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood candidate. Even though the presidential elections were allegedly marred by fraud and Christians reportedly prevented from voting, Youssef says that the White House and the U.S. State Department were quick to “embrace Morsi as the victor.”

JIHAD AGAINST CHRISTIANS IN AFRICA

Dr. Peter Hammond – 22nd Feb 2013

Pastor Beheaded in Tanzania

Pastor Mathayo Kachili of the Tanzania Assemblies of God in Buseresere was beheaded by a Muslim mob. The Geita Regional Police Commander’s office issued a statement that the murder occurred during a confrontation when Muslims demanded the immediate closure of butcheries owned by Christians. Muslim youth armed with clubs and machetes attacked Christians, injuring several people, some of whom are in a critical condition.

Meat Monopoly Move by Muslim Minority

Pastor Kachili was murdered on Monday, 11 February, when a Muslim mob attacked the Assemblies of God Church in Buseresere. This was part of a nation wide campaign to force all meat industries in Tanzania to be run in accordance with Shari’a law and controlled by the Muslim minority.

Christian Response

ASSIST News Service quoted the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Tanzania, Barnabas Mtokambali: “Our response as a Church is not one of violence and hatred, reflecting the attitude of those committing such crimes, but that of Christ and reflecting His image, by loving and praying for those who humiliate and persecute us, and not holding such sins against them.”

Alabama Supreme Court Declares A Fetus Is A Child

Jessica Pielko – January 18, 2013

Anti-choice activists are not simply trying to pass abortion restrictions through state legislatures, they are trying to expand existing criminal statutes to create multiple pathways for recognition of fetal rights. The latest example of this strategy comes courtesy of the Alabama Supreme Court and an opinion that held a fetus should be considered a child and therefore is protected under the state’s chemical endangerment law.

The ruling came as the court upheld the convictions of two women whose used illegal drugs while they were pregnant. The two women had been charged with chemically endangering their children in violation of an Alabama law that makes it a crime to expose a child to a controlled substance, a chemical substance such as precursors for manufacturing drugs or drug paraphernalia.

The cases are themselves tragic, even without the additional failure of the criminal justice system here. Hope Ankrom and her newborn son both tested positive for cocaine when the child was born on January 31, 2000. Medical records documented Ankrom’s substance abuse during her pregnancy but she was unable to break her addiction. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment, which was suspended, and she was placed on probation for one year, according to the statement.

‘I love pizza, but …’: anti-multicultural party’s Canberra launch – Farz Edraki Feb 11, 2013

Australia’s newest political party was launched today with an anti-multicultural, pro-Christian platform?—?and the help of climate sceptic Christopher Monckton. Farz Edraki was there for Crikey.

Watch out Australia, watch out the federal Parliament; we are coming!” So declared Reverend Daniel Nalliah this morning as he launched Australia’s newest political party at Canberra’s National Press Club.

We are determined to be politically incorrect,” Nalliah told the launch of Rise Up Australia, of which he is president. “If an Aussie loves his country, and can’t say anything … then I think ‘tolerance’ has gone too far.”

Great Success of Rise Up Australia Party Launch

Dear fellow Australians,

As Founding Chairman & President of Rise Up Australia Party, on behalf of the National Executive, I wish to thank all those who attended the Party Launch at the National Press Club in Canberra on Monday 11th of Feb 2013.

Also a big thank you to those who could not make it, but have been faithful supporters of the Party.

Words possibly cannot describe the excitement and joy people demonstrated at the Launch, with many stating, “It is about time someone took a stand”. This same sentiment is now echoing right across Australia, with the amazing feedback our Party head office has been receiving in the past 24 hours.

I was so happy as I saw many fellow patriotic Aussies, including many from different ethnic backgrounds, waving their flags and celebrating as our National Anthem was sung, in addition to when they heard that Rise Up Australia Party was committed to ‘Keep Australia Australian.’

This to me and many others was a very historic day. I want to thank the thousands of people who have entered our RUA Party website and the many who have sent comments. It is so exciting to also see our Twitter & Face book pages rapidly increasing over the past 24 hours.

We also want to thank all the Media for a ‘Job Well Done’ in covering the Party launch

Hundreds of Thousands Oppose Same-Sex Marriage in France

By Anugrah Kumar , Christian Post Contributor – January 14, 2013

Police estimated about 340,000 people participated in the “demo for all” march to oppose a proposed legislation billed as “marriage for all.” It was one of the largest demonstrations in the French capital since an education protest in 1984, according to The Associated Press.

Organizers claimed more than 800,000 people turned out to oppose the proposal. Protesters started the march from three points in the city, walking up to four miles to converge at the grounds of the Eiffel Tower.

Protesters – Catholics, conservatives, Muslims and evangelicals – brought their children to the demonstration, where some placards read, “Born of a man and a woman.”

“This law is going to lead to a change of civilization that we don’t want,” Philippe Javaloyes, a protester, was quoted as saying. “We have nothing against different ways of living, but we think that a child must grow up with a mother and a father.”

Hollande’s Socialist Party is expected to introduce the bill on Tuesday, and voting will follow public debate at the end of this month.

Singapore Megachurch Pastor Warns Repealing Homosexuality Laws Threatens Families

By Stoyan Zaimov , Christian Post Reporter –  Jan 18, 2013

Lawrence Khong, senior pastor at Faith Community Baptist Church (FCBC), a notable megachurch in Singapore, has warned the nation’s former prime minister that repealing the country’s homosexual sex laws might be a “looming threat” for families.

“Examples from around the world have shown that the repeal of similar laws have led to negative social changes, especially the breakdown of the family as a basic building block and foundation of the society,” Khong expressed in a statement addressing former Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong, but did not name which countries in particular he had in mind

Singapore has strict laws against homosexuality that have stood in place since colonial times. They are currently being challenged by gay rights activists who insist that they should be repealed.

Khong, 51, leads one of Singapore’s biggest megachurches with 9,000 congregants, which he founded in 1986. Besides being a popular preacher, Knong is also an entertainer, movie producer and magician — he has led stage shows called the “Magic of Love” and “Magic Box” intended to share Christ with others.

Rick Warren Tells ‘Oprah’s Lifeclass’ to Listen to God, Read the Bible

Christian Post Entertainment – Jan 16, 2013

Saddleback Church Senior Pastor Rick Warren, making an appearance on the OWN network’s “Oprah’s Lifeclass,” assigned a “homework assignment” to the audience by telling them to open up the Bible and start reading the Book of John.

“You are a product of your past, but you are not a prisoner of your past. It has influence over you, but it’s just one of the cards,” Warren said on the episode that was aired on Jan. 13, adding that reading the Book of John can help people come to that realization.

While promoting the 10th anniversary of his best-selling non-fiction book, The Purpose Driven Life, Warren created an analogy between life and the card game of poker.

“The cards we are dealt are the things we don’t have control over. I didn’t choose where I was born, when I was born, I didn’t choose my gender, my parents, my race, my natural abilities, my natural weaknesses, but a wise player can even play what seems to be a weak hand, and win the game. There are ways to take what you are given and make the most out of it,” Warren continued.

Winfrey noted that many people spend their time complaining why they weren’t given a different hand in life, and Warren added that people need to accept the life they are given because each and every person is unique.

Obama Calls for Gays to Be ‘Like Anyone Else Under the Law’

By Paul Stanley , Christian Post Reporter – January 21, 2013

In his second inaugural speech, President Obama called for the extension of laws that would give gays more protections and benefits under federal law.

“Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law, for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well,” said Obama.

The president’s comments were made while outlining what seemed to be protections for minorities and undocumented immigrants. The speech, which also falls on the federal holiday that celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., appeared to take on similarities to the former civil rights leader’s infamous “I Have a Dream” speech.

“We, the people, declare today that the most evident of truths – that all of us are created equal – is the star that guides us still; just as it guided our forebears through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall; just as it guided all those men and women, sung and unsung, who left footprints along this great Mall, to hear a preacher say that we cannot walk alone; to hear a King proclaim that our individual freedom is inextricably bound to the freedom of every soul on Earth.”
