Global Day Of Prayer For The Peace Of Jerusalem On October 4th, 2009

Temple Mount in Jerusalem, IsraelDear Praying Friends,

As the Bible said it would, Jerusalem has become a cup of controversy on the global stage today (Zech. 12:2-3).

RIGHT NOW… there are increasing threats from many nations against God’s covenant city, there are escalating tensions surrounding the inhabitants of the land of Israel, and there are ever-increasing global repercussions for all mankind because of the critical situation.

As these global challenges arise, however, GOD is present. His response has been to stir the hearts of Christians from China to Germany and from Kenya to Brazil, to raise their voices in fervent intercession with His Son on behalf of Jerusalem and all her inhabitants, both Jew and Arab alike.
Are YOU one of those voices?

We are weeks away from a powerful moment. On Sunday, October 4th, tens of millions of Christians in literally every corner of this planet will unite for The Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem, a day specifically set aside by more than 1,200 global leaders.

Acts 4:12 United Christian Strategic Meetings to counter the ‘Parliament of the World’s Religions’ in Melbourne

Dear friends and family in Christ,

We’re posting the following email from Salt Shakers for your urgent prayer and action regarding the Acts 4:12 united Christian strategic meetings to counter the Parliament of World Religions in Melbourne.

Dear Pastor/Leaders

We invite you to join us at one of three locations in Melbourne for a Pastors briefing and consultation. In December this year Melbourne will host the ‘Parliament of the World’s Religions’ – a gathering of ‘faith’ groups from around the world.

The two Men organising this event suggested to the Australian Government a few years ago that our Federal Parliament should stop being opened with an exclusively Christian prayer. They argued that this should be replaced by a rotation of prayers by the 17 ‘top’ faiths including ‘no religion’.  Some Local Councils have already adopted a roster of prayers at their suggestion and formed ‘Multi-faith Networks’ in their area.

Christian Sudanese Woman Facing 40 Lashes For Wearing Trousers

By Mail Foreign Service – 30th July 2009

A Christian woman who faces 40 lashes for wearing trousers in Sudan made a dramatic appearance in court yesterday to fight her case.

Lubna Ahmed al-Hussein walked into the packed hearing in the same green slacks that got her arrested.

Under Islamic laws used in parts of the country, it is illegal for a woman to wear trousers rather than long skirts in public.

Lubna al-Hussein, along with several other women, was arrested for dressing indecently in trousers as she dined in a restaurant

But the law is not supposed to apply to non-Muslims like Miss Hussein, a former journalist who works for the United Nations.

And it is only imposed sporadically in the capital, Khartoum, where she was arrested.
Indecency cases are not uncommon in Sudan, but Miss Hussein has used hers to campaign against dress codes. (more…)

Convert From Islam Shot Dead In Somalia

Simba Tian/ Compass Direct News News

SomaliaMuslim extremists early this morning killed a Christian convert in Mahadday Weyne, Somalia, 62 miles north of Mogadishu.

Al Shabaab Islamist rebels shot Mohammed Sheikh Abdiraman to death at 7 a.m., eyewitnesses told Compass. They said the Islamic extremists appeared to have been hunting the convert from Islam, and when they found him they did not hesitate to shoot him.

The sources told Compass that Abdiraman was the leader of an underground “cell group” of Christians in Somalia.

“We are very sad about this incident, and we also are not safe,” one eyewitness said by telephone. “Pray for us.”

The sources were too distraught to share more details about Abdiraman’s death. Another eyewitness who requested anonymity said Abdiraman had been a Christian for 15 years. He is survived by two children, ages 15 and 10. His wife died three years ago due to illness. (more…)

Christian Groups Form Freedom Federation

BibleA cross-section of conservative Christian groups have united to form a federation that will promote biblical values in political, social and cultural arenas.

Announced Tuesday during a press conference in Washington, D.C., the Freedom Federation comprises more than two dozen groups, including the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Teen Mania, Liberty University, TheCall, MorningStar Ministries; Concerned Women for America, the High Impact Leadership Coalition and Strang Communications, which publishes Charisma magazine.

“There is nothing that has ever existed on this kind of broad-based, large scale that is truly multiethnic and transgenerational,” said Mathew D. Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, which is a founding member of the federation. “So it really provides a unique component to [address] these issues that has never existed before.”

Staver said the groups signed a Declaration of American Values, which affirms 10 principles including the sanctity of life, traditional marriage, religious liberty and limited government. He said the organization is primarily spiritual, but federation members will network to mobilize their constituents to protect those values when challenged politically or socially. (more…)

Religious Exceptions – Church v State

The CrossWith the Victorian government currently considering all the ‘exceptions’ and exemptions’ in Victoria’s Equal Opportunity Act, things are starting to heat up!

The religious exceptions in the Act are causing a great deal of concern among many Christian groups.

Section 75 covers churches and religious schools, Section 76 covers religious schools and Section 77 covers individuals.

The exceptions say that religious bodies and so on are excepted from the anti-discrimination laws. They mean, for example, that Christian schools can specify that those they employ have Christian beliefs and lifestyles that are consistent with their Christian beliefs.

The Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations Committee put out an Options Paper in May 2009 and asked for submissions. Over 1,000 were received and the Committee is now analysing them.   (more…)

Marching For Jesus In Secular France

At The MarchIn France, a country known for its secularization and growing Islamic population, tens of thousands of Christians will take to the streets for a March for Jesus on Saturday, which is being held at the same time as the nation’s annual gay pride parade.

An estimated 30,000 Christians will parade through the streets of Bordeaux, Lille, Nantes and Paris, France, distributing 100,000 Bibles and 20,000 gospel tracts. Representing at least 70 different churches, marchers will carry signs proclaiming Jesus as Lord as they sing worship songs.

Parade participants also hope to be able to share their faith with the estimated 800,000 people who will gather for the nation’s annual gay pride parade, whose route will intersect with the March for Jesus. Christian marchers have been prepped to pray and witness to the homosexuals without fear.

“It would be such a great privilege to be praying for all of the thousands of homosexuals that will be marching on the streets,” said Christine Thabot, an event organizer and co-pastor of Temple de Paris with her husband, David. “We’re not afraid. They need love, and we are there to bring them the love of Christ.” (more…)

Obama’s Attack On Our Christian Heritage

Every Fourth of July we celebrate that day 233 years ago when 56 men voted for American independence, but many do not know that it was not until Aug. 2 of 1776 that the Declaration of Independence was formally signed by most of the delegates to the Second Continental Congress. In a speech given at Independence Hall on the evening of Aug. 1, 1776, Samuel Adams – often called the Father of the American Revolution – spoke to an assembled crowd about the spiritual and religious significance of what he and others had done on July 4th:

We have explored the temple of royalty, and found that the idol we have bowed down to, has eyes which see not, ears that hear not our prayers, and a heart like the nether millstone. We have this day restored the Sovereign, to whom alone men ought to be obedient. He reigns in Heaven, and with a propitious eye beholds his subjects assuming that freedom of thought, and dignity of self-direction which He bestowed on them. From the rising to the setting sun, may His kingdom come. (more…)
