As you may know, in Islamic countries such as Afghanistan, converting from Islam to Christianity is a crime punishable by death. While they don’t go that far, certain Indian states and Nepal erect formidable hurdles for would-be converts to Christianity.
Â
And then there’s the United Kingdom.
In 2007, a 16-year-old girl was placed into foster care after being assaulted by a family member. Her foster mother had taken care of 80 foster kids over 10 years. She rented a farmhouse and was, by all accounts, completely committed to the well-being of the children placed under her care.
She is also a practicing Anglican Christian. This hadn’t been a problem. No one had ever accused her of taking advantage of her relationship to the girls for proselytizing.
The same is true of the 16-year-old in question. Still, the girl became interested in Christianity on her own; said that she wanted to attend church; and expressed a desire to be baptized. For the girl, baptism was a “washing away of the horrible things she had been through and a symbol of a new start.†(more…)
A new interfaith project has been launched (13 Nov 2008) to bring all religious groups together, as well as people of no religion, to formulate and endorse a ‘Charter for Compassion’ – a declaration endorsing the ‘Golden Rule’ -Â the one that says “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”!
Â
The project is the idea of Karen Armstrong, an interfaith advocate and former Catholic nun, who now calls herself a “freelance monotheistâ€. She has written sympathetically about Islam in the past few years. Her initial idea for the Charter was to involve Christianity, Islam and Judaism. However, she has now, after discussion with interfaith groups, expanded the plan to include various other religions as well as people of no religion.
Â
Karen Armstrong quotes the Dalai Lama and Confucius. She maintains that all the major religions have a form of the ‘golden rule’ and that atheists too can adopt this rule. At the same time as highlighting ‘compassion’, she criticises ‘fundamentalism or religious ‘dogma’. She wants the United Nations to assist with the project. (more…)
During this week 3rd to 7th November 2008, 48 Muslim and Catholic theologians are meeting in Rome in order to discuss a document elaborated last year by 138 senior Muslim scholars. The document, A Common Word Between Us and You, proclaims itself to be an attempt to find common ground between the two religions in order to bring peace to the world.
The thesis of A Common Word is essentially that Christians should come to agreement with Muslims that love of God and love of neighbour are the most important aspects of the two faiths and therefore instead of fighting one another, they should seek to outdo each other with good deeds. (more…)
THE TIMES
The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.
Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through county courts or the country’s High Court, a part of its Supreme Court system.
Previously, the rulings of sharia courts in Britain could not be enforced, and depended on voluntary compliance among Muslims. (more…)
Dear Friends and Family in Christ,
While Australia is hosting the Interfaith Parliament of World Religions in Melbourne during December 2009, Saudi Arabia is playing the double game and taking the Western world for a ride! (read the following article) As Bible-believing God fearing Christians in Australia, we should be ashamed of spokesmen such as Tim Costello (the head of World Vision) for being one of the main promoters of this deceptive event in addition to other Christian leaders who support this ‘Interfaith Hypocrisy’ and refuse to speak out against it to protect their own self image and reputation. They are the ones who sell our Christian heritage and compromise the absolute truth of the Word of God and the Cross of Christ! (more…)

He has been encouraged to have a time of prayer with President Bush and Laura Bush at their summit.
“Some say it is a new day in South Korea. After a landslide election in November, Myung-Bak Lee was sworn into office on February 19.”
So wrote Ann Lovell, a media worker based in Seoul with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board in a story for Baptist Press. She continued, “This has been good news for many of South Korea’s Christian leaders since Lee also is a member of the 70,000 member Somang Presbyterian Church in Seoul. One of the president’s chief advocates is Billy Kim, president of South Korea’s Far East Broadcasting Company and pastor of Suwon Central Baptist Church from 1960-2004. Kim, a former Baptist World Alliance president regarded as one of the world’s most influential Christian leaders, first earned international attention when he served as an interpreter for the 1973 Billy Graham crusade. PRIME Minister John Howard and Treasurer Peter Costello are under pressure to distance themselves from an evangelical church leader who has spoken at a meeting of the far right-wing League of Rights.
Pastor Danny Nalliah, the head of Melbourne-based Catch the Fire Ministries, has confirmed he addressed the group, despite being warned that they were “anti-Jewish”.
Pastor Nalliah has been given top-level access in recent months to the Howard Government, which he has endorsed enthusiastically. (more…)
