RUAP National President calls on churches & Aussie homes to open up to help refugees (mainly Christian minorities from Syria & Iraq)

FOR URGENT RELEASE – MONDAY 14th SEPTEMBER 2015

Last week, the National President of Rise Up Australia Party sent out an email to his church and political party network asking for churches and Aussie homes to open up and accommodate refugees from Iraq & Syria; under PM Tony Abbott’s plan of taking 12,000 refugees from “persecuted minorities”.

From his office today, Mr Nalliah stated, ”I am so humbled and overwhelmed at the feedback I have received in just the last 2-3 days from churches & simple Aussie families wanting to house these refugees. This shows the real heart of our nation’s people. Thank you so very much for your kindness and willing heart of help.”

Following is a video link to a message on this issue from RUAP President Mr Nalliah.

https://youtu.be/GfzN8lWyNzg

This morning we spoke with the offices of Government Ministers Peter Dutton (Immigration Minister) & Scott Morrison (Minister for Resettlement, etc.) and they were very interested in our plan to house these refugees. They were also very appreciative of the initiative taken.

We hope the media will run this article and challenge more churches and people to come forward to help these severely persecuted minorities (Christian communities) wanting to flee Syria & Iraq from the wrath of ISIS.

Mr Nalliah continued, “I hope we will drop our personal agendas and unite behind a common cause to help these refugees who might not live another day if ISIS captures more cities in the Middle East.”

Please stay tuned to our website as we will keep you updated with info as to how you could help.

    Hi Daniel,

I would like to help Christian refugees. I can’t immediately give you an indication of how, as my farm is on the market and I could soon be on the move.

My first instinct was to offer to accommodate a family or two, in a spare house I have, on the farm.

If I can’t do that (or something similar) I will give support in whatever way God directs.

    God Bless . . .
    Pam

Yes. My husband and I are happy to house Christian refugees.
I like sound of German experience where refugees remain with a family for six months.
I have discussed with church people who are happy for me to be point of contact.
    Blessings

    Hi Ps Daniel,
Into our own home – NO
Open to other ways to help – YES

Refugees do get govt payments and a three party arrangement that may possibly be patterned after the Magpie nests for the homeless may help (Contact Archie Boyle Salvation Army Project 614).
As far as I know its the Collingwood FC that rents the houses and the Salvos provide case workers.
Refugees usually get case workers from the Red Cross or other org’s and the govt pays red cross.
The problem is that refugees have to find accommodation on the open market, but do not have the means to pay market rents or find willing landlords.

Another big issue is whether the Visa’s they get initially includes a working permit. I don’t know whether the resettlement program for middle east refugees includes automatic grant of an asylum before the refugees come to Australia. I would hope so as they are not classified illegal maritime arrivals.

Excellent idea! There are heaps of Christians out there with big almost empty homes and I for one would be very keen to house refugees but at the moment I live and work in a boarding school so I do not have my own place. Maybe the door will open for me to contribute in another way. Keep up the good work Danny and team.

    Hello Danny and co.
Oddly I sent an email to ACL yesterday to say I am interested to share my home with Christian Refugees.
I have space for a small family with a large back yard.
No doubt there would be a vetting of the hosts (best done by Christians)
    And financial help.

  20. Donna

I would have to think about opening my home. But one thing my friend has a Kurdish Christian boyfriend he had to escape from Iranians killing him the Iraqi’s got him out and eventually came to Australia he goes to church. I was thinking he might be very good helping, but anyway he stayed for the weekend. He was very nice. But the culture was very different. He is still trying to get use to it. The freedom we have and women being independent. We really have to pray about that that they assimilate. Having him in my home was a shock to me how different the culture was. Also he desperately trying to get his daughter out she is a christian but family want to marry her off to a Muslim he needs 15.000 dollars he has got some of it. Because he is a permanent resident. But you would probably need to prepare people for the culture but also to help them to assimilate learn the language our culture it is hard for them to understand our freedom and culture. Anyway God bless, Donna

  22. Steve and Vesna

    Good Morning,

We would be interested in housing a family.

    Located in Lismore, NSW, 2480.

Our house could suit a large family, or perhaps a couple of small families.

There is also an unconfirmed possibility that we may be able to organise some work for any particularly fit males. The work is strenuous, and typically suits very fit males in their 20’s.

Any boarders would need to be Christian. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”.

Thank you, Regards, Steve and Vesna

  23. Caroline

    YES YES YES
I have two spare bedrooms, a large backyard that could house a tent, which I have and bedding and I have a caravan. I have more than I need and would love to house a family or two.
But I live in Geraldton WA.
    Blessings,
    Caroline

    Dear Ps Daniel Nalliah,

I have a networking group of 3000 people and wanted to check with you first, if I can put this up to my networking forum and see if any taker to extend help to these refugees.

If there are people who are willing to come forward, who do I ask them to get in touch with. Once I’ve received details from you, I will work on it asap or call me to discuss.

    Kind regards,
    Hazel

  29. Howard

    Hi,
We have a 2 bedroom flat attached to our house and we would welcome a Christian refugee family from Syria. They would be welcome to stay rent-free if they have no money. We would not want Muslim people only because it could cause problems; they would also be better suited staying with Muslims.

    Kind regards,
    Howard (Principal)

Get the sort of people who would make it ‘in the sticks” and there would be everything from complete houses through to respectable shacks in rural areas. There is a half respectable shack going begging on this farm. They leave a gate open or put a foot wrong like that, and they are off, gone.
Under proper conditions, yes, there is room for a family here. And a goat or two – which presumably wouldn’t be coming all the way from Syria. Would they be happy to live ‘in the sticks’ — and what would they do? No money for wages — but there are a few unused dwellings. Efficiency has reduced the manpower needed in the scrub. Empty dwellings are not uncommon — here, anyways.
Firewood, goat fodder — everything for a king. Provided one doesn’t use electricity, pay rates, and be in the rat race.

  32. Felicity

    Dear Ps. Daniel,
God willing we at Shalom Worship Centre in Merrigum would be happy to accommodate a refugee family for a season.
    Regards,
    Felicity

    Dear Catch the Fire Ministries,

I am writing in response to the email regarding the assisting with Christian refugees when they arrive.

I am located in the western suburbs of Melbourne and was hoping when the time comes in I can be given information to help in anyway I am able to.

I am already putting clothes aside to give to these people if that can help in anyway though it’s small help ? keep up the great work and thanks for the updates.

    God bless you all,

    Kind regards,

    Stephanie
