Victoria – Geoff Shaw to move ABORTION amendments

Independent MP Geoff Shaw is planning to move a Bill to AMEND Victoria’ abortion law. We’ve been waiting for a long time (and working behind the scenes with a number of pro-life groups) to try and get the Liberal/National government led by Denis Napthine to ACT to AMEND Victoria’s horrific abortion law, passed in 2008 (info here), that effectively allows abortion up to birth. But Dr Napthine said there would NOT be a ‘government Bill’ to change the Abortion law.

That left a ‘private member’s Bill’, moved by individual MPs. . .

There are many clauses that need to be CHANGED, but it became obvious that pro-life Coalition MPs would probably ONLY attempt to change the the “doctors’ conscience” provision (Section 8). BUT, sadly, NO Liberal MP appears to be prepared to move even that ONE change. With an election in November this year, it was increasingly unlikely a Bill would be moved.

Geoff Shaw, the Independent (former Liberal) MP from Frankston who holds the ‘balance of power’ in the Legislative Assembly, has been saying he would move a private member’s Bill to AMEND the law. He has just announced that he WILL INTRODUCE a private member’s Bill to CHANGE SIX SECTIONS of the law!

As well as restoring ‘doctors’ conscience’, he wants to ban partial birth and gender selection abortions, provide pain relief for babies during abortions, require doctors to resuscitate babies who survive abortion attempts, and ensure there is counselling for families and informed consent. We support ALL these changes and congratulate Geoff Shaw for having the courage to bring a Bill to amend the Abortion Law Reform Act.
We need to start CONTACTING our MPs – supporting the changes proposed by Geoff Shaw (see ACTION section BELOW). And also congratulate Geoff and support his move…

It is time someone DROPPED A BOMB ON THE VICTORIAN LIBERAL PARTY and it seems, yet again, that it is up to Geoff Shaw. Thankfully, he helped get rid of Ted Baillieu as Premier and we thought that would help, but sadly Denis Napthine has been a total disappointment. He seems more interested in horses than saving the lives of unborn children, and now he is even opposing the removal of 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act – WHAT A GUTLESS DISGRACE!
If the Liberals do not get their act together by REPEALING those abortion laws and immediately changing their stupid position on 18C, there will be a landslide against them at the next election. 
That will mean we get Labor back – yes, the ones who gave us the worst abortion laws in Australia, stole the consciences of our Doctors, and who have already stated they will spend 1 million dollars of our money telling our children the lie that homosexuality is normal.

POLITELY ASK them to support Geoff Shaw’s private member’s Bill to AMEND the Abortion Law Reform Act. The changes proposed are essential to ensure that doctors’ conscience is restored, women are fully informed and the worst excesses of the law are curtailed.
