Is Biblical Repentance Relevant For The Church Today & For Us As Christ-Followers???

By Pastor Danny Nalliah

Dear Family and Friends in Christ,

The last few weeks have been most exciting serving the Lord Jesus Christ in Australia!

We all know that without battle there is no victory!  When I first came to Australia I said, “Lord, it is so boring serving You in this nation.”  However, glory to God as I really cannot say that any more. Since He gave us the court case battle with the Islamic Council of Victoria and from there onwards, there has never been a dull moment serving the Lord and the body of Christ in our nation of Australia!

Truly, Jesus is Lord of all! When the devil is mad, we can rejoice and be glad that the righteousness, justice, and truth of the Word of God is marching on in the power of the Holy Spirit!

I want to share something that has been weighing on my heart in these days.  I have received many emails and have had direct conversations with many pastors, ministers, and Christian leaders in the body of Christ who believe that 2 Chronicles 7:14 is not relevant for Christ-followers today. They do not believe that God judges nations today, and therefore see no need for Christ-followers to live a lifestyle of prayer and repentance for their personal sins, the corporate sin in the church, the sins of the wider community, nor the nation as a whole. I was very surprised when I heard the first person tell me this, but then there were more and more, and I was absolutely shocked when I heard some who are known as theologians and teachers making the same statement.

Many of you will remember the man who died (Pastor Bill Kolikata) and came back to life 20 minutes later at the National Prayer and Repentance Meeting for rain in Federal Parliament on 22nd October 2007. He had a supernatural encounter with Almighty God in heaven when his spirit left his body.  The Lord and Head of the Church, Jesus Christ Himself, showed him an externally decorated and fashionable church built on sand and told him to tell the church (including pastors, ministers, and Christian leaders) in Australia to individually and corporately repent, pray, and build His Church on the ROCK of the Cross, His death and resurrection, as He is coming back very soon as King of kings and LORD of lords!

I sent this message given by God to Pastor Bill on email to our national and international database, representing thousands of Christians, and hundreds and hundreds of churches from nearly every denomination across the body of Christ in Australia.   I did not tell anyone how they should receive this word, but left it to them to pray and seek the Lord about it.  I received many responses, particularly from people in the pews saying, “we will pray!”  However, I received a response from a leader at a large Pentecostal church in Melbourne.  This is what she had to say, “ Who are you to tell us to repent. The church is beautiful, fine, great and perfect. There is no need to repent.” I was absolutely shocked.

What a sad state of affairs!  Will a holy and just God have mercy on a church which is unrepentant, full of pride and self-satisfaction? Oh, Lord please help us as Your people, “who are called by Your name to humble ourselves and pray and seek Your face and turn away from our wicked ways, then You will hear from heaven, and will forgive our sin and heal our land.”

Another minister told me that 2 Chronicles 7:14 was only for the historic nation of Israel because it was from the Old Testament and only the Jews were known as the children of God. Well, let me ask you a question, who are the children of God today??? Is it you and me as Christ-followers? How people distort the scriptures to avoid the reality of God’s judgment, and the urgency of the call to prayer!  What such responses in fact show is that this biblical and spiritual principle is as relevant for all the body of Christ today as it was for Israel back then!

Unfortunately even reputable church leaders can adopt a man-made theology of a weak, diluted, worldly love, misinterpreting and misappropriating scriptures to present an unbalanced representation of a Holy God who is both Justice and Love! So many in the church believe we can continue to willfully live in sin, simply asking forgiveness all the time and for God to fix everything for them, because after all God is love, love, love, only love.

Jesus is a holy God who once walked into the temple in Jerusalem and upon seeing the misuse of the house of God, was consumed with righteous anger, turned the tables over and drove all of those who were polluting His Father’s house out with a whip! By the way this is in the New Testament! (Matthew 11:15-18)

The meaning of ‘Repentance’ in the dictionary is – ‘Showing deep remorse and regret and turning away from what you have been doing. Very different to asking forgiveness and getting on with life as usual. The New Testament speaks of repentance quite often, in particular chapters 2 and 3 of the book of Revelation which is specifically directed toward the church, the body of Christ, including pastors, ministers, and Christian leaders alike.

Following are some New Testament scriptures regarding repentance – some are directed toward unbelievers and others are specifically directed toward us believers as Christ-followers.

Matthew 3:7-8, Mark 1:15, 6:12, Luke 13:3,5, 15:7,10, Acts 3:19, 8:22, 17:30-31, 26:20, Romans 2:4, 2 Corinthians 7:9-10, 2 Peter 3:9, Revelation 2:5,16,21-22, 3:3,19 16:9,11

The truth can be very painful. It is so easy for people to turn the house of God into a place of personal business and worldly entertainment. There are many church goers but how many of these are devoted disciples?

If I am completely wrong in asking the body of Christ to repent, but you do repent anyway, you will most certainly be thankful to the Lord that you are ready to meet Him face to face!  However,  if I am right and those who say, ‘ no need to repent’ are wrong, and you have listened to their voices, you could be in big trouble when the Lord returns in the clouds with power and great glory!

We must all make a solemn choice with eternal consequences as we’re ultimately accountable for what we’ve done (or not done) with our life after receiving the grace, mercy, forgiveness, goodness and love of God!

Many Blessings and Much Love,

Keep pressing in and on in and following Jesus, Pastor Danny- may God heal your hurts and help you forgive all those who have made false accusations and may God give you and yours His favor and protection.

    Hi Pastor Danny

Thank you for this your latest release

Our pastor shared on Sunday that we have been called to holyliness as this was the Lords strong message to the church on prayer meeting night this week! His sermon supported this on Sunday.

I have been reading many Old testament scriptures lately on Kings and leaders who became self-reliant and full of pride in a moment of prosperity and God given success , which then stirred the Lord’s displeasure, anger and judgement. (sobering thoughts)

Sometimes the church of today can be more about business and wealth than about the simplicity of Christ and the saving power of the cross and having Jesus enthroned upon our lives.

I wonder if the pastor you referred to Danny looked at his self-reliance and the things that take our focus of being dependant on the Lord which were possibly God driven but now man controlled – Take King Solomon as an example the richest man that has ever lived and would be the envy of many in the world give us all the advice; to fear God and be ready to give an account to Him.

It is sad news indeed the hear the responses that you heard from other church leaders Danny, but it is not surprising.

    In Kindness

    Hi Pastor Danny,

I agree we need to repent and pray, it is scriptual! What is happening in most churches today Jesus would indeed turn upside down with a whip. The church has become a market place and we are disgusted at it. We do however enjoy purchasing worship resources and a few christian books, we don’t however puchase material on theology as it’s all mostly just someone’s opinion on the Word of God when the Bible is revealed to us via the Holy Spirit and not man’s interpretation.

God has done an amazing thing he has sold our house, found finance where it was impossible and found us a large home on 12 acres of land near Mt Gambier!! We move on the 27th of this month.

Be encouraged Pastor Danny, your rewards are great in the Kingdom of Heaven!! Talking to lukewarm christians is hard and I’m still praying that I’m not one of them!

I myself had a dream and I saw Jesus, I asked him if the rapture was true as this occured during a time when I was doubting the rapture theory, He told me, “Yes, it’s true, I will see you very soon.”

Keep pressing on, one day they will listen!

    Blessings

    Angela

I am not at all surprised that you received such responses.

The church is full of religious and idolatrous spirits.

Recent teaching in my church has centred on the renewing/transformation of our minds and the casting down of vain imaginations/opinions that raise themselves up against the knowledge of God. With pride comes vanity and a sense of such selfishness and foolish admiration of ones own reflection that one becomes blinded to the truth.

They have indeed become bound in their own vain glorious pursuits and, unless they repent, will one day hear those terrible words. “Depart from me I never knew you”.

Keep up the good fight and strive towards the prize that awaits us in heaven.

    GO FOR IT MATE!

    Dear Pastor Danny,

You are a mighty man of God, whom God is using in this hour. It’s no coincidence, you were born for such a time as this!

You have my prayers and my support, such as it may be. You have vocalized many of the things the Lord has spoken to me concerning the state of His “church”, has His betrothed been unfaithful? Led stray by others? I think so. Each and everyone of us need to repent and turn back to Jesus, our Bridegroom the true Beloved. “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.” We all need the revelation of what the Kingdom of God is.

    Agape,

    Lynn

  7. Mieke

Dear Pastor Danny, it saddens me to read about the response of pastors to the call for repentance.

What immediately came to mind was the letters to the churches in the book of Revelation, they were held responsible for not only their own sins but also for allowing the corrupting influences to infiltrate their churches.

It make me wonder if this is why we are not seeing the revival in Australia we have for so long longed and prayed for.

Also the lack of unity of THE CHURCH in the different cities.

I loved to read where you visited a place where the pastors of that town were united ,may that happen in all of our towns and cities.a united stand against the forces of the enemy.

I thank God for your bold stand, and remember you in my prayer.God Bless you abundantly. Mieke

  8. Neil

    Thanks Danny

I couldn’t agree more, I have no doubt that our deliberate and ungodly actions still bring judgment today, (thank God, He is merciful or we would be in even greater trouble!!).

I believe according to my understanding of the scriptures, the Laws and judgments of God have always been and still are eternally inscribed upon the hearts of all men – whether they understand this or not – and we bring THE BLESSING or the CURSE automatically upon ourselves, I believe it’s that simple.
Trouble with leaders today is that God’s response I believe, is becoming more immediate and they have become accustomed to perhaps a more lenient response of the past!
Well hey…wake up everyone, it is the time of the end and ALL THINGS will quicken in pace and response…pretty exciting eh?? especially the potential for the spread of the Gospel…

    Blessings.

    Dear Danny,

May God bless you- a true messenger to the Body of Christ

    Bless you brother Danny,

You are a ‘gutsy’ man of God! This teaching has been coming in loud and clear to me and my family (and our church). Sorry to say that too many ‘pentecostal’ churches (we are one of them!!) are erring on the side of “flakey” …thanks for ‘keeping it real’ and keeping us posted … bless ya. Liz

If the church is all that it should be, with no need for a deep repentance, then where if the fruit ???? Where are those being brought into the Kingdom ? I don’t see it in the western church generally. Blessings. Linda

  15. Ian

    Dear Pr Danny & Team

Thank you for reminding us of the cost of following Jesus- as you experience!

This is evident in most countries, where the Kingdom of Heaven is advancing

If we care to take up our cross daily & follow Jesus then fireworks begin! If we are bound up be Satan, he has no need to put us in prison!

    (echoing Derek Prince’s words)

While I find it difficult to give direct cause & effect to God’s judgement on our nation, if we do walk away from God we cannot expect His protective covering & blessing. Judgement does begin at the House of God & the more light we have the more severe the judgement! It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Jesus, the Prince of Peace also said He came not to bring peace but a sword, sorting out those who love Him 1st above all other loves!

I pray that your part of the prophetic & apostolic network of Christian leaders continues to grow. Some of us had the privilege to be part of the Australia Day Melbourne prayer gathering.

    Blessings

  17. Pr Russell

    Hi Danny.

On the subject of the relevance of biblical repentance for the Church today and us as Christ-followers???

I indeed thank you for your concern and exhortation to us as followers of Christ as I myself asked Jesus in my heart at the age of 21 years and have followed him with great joy for the past 33 years. My wife and five children serve Him and love Him also and I thank Him every day for His Grace, Love and Mercy towards each one of us.

I would like to say that my knowledge of theology is not as well grounded as what you yourself teach and put forward in your writings. I commend you on your knowledge of the Scriptures and know that you are a genuine follower of Christ who want’s to see the body of Christ come to a place of full maturity.

There is one area though that I believe you need to be careful of in your writings. Please understand that not everyone in the Body of Christ will see things exactly as you see them or as Pastor Bill Kolikata saw them. Your exhortation in the letter seems to indicate that people should agree with you and if they do not it is to their peril.

You or I are not the final authority and never will be. Either is Pastor Bill Kolikata the final authority and his vision is “his vision”.

My teachings to the Church include repentance and 2 Chron 7:14 is one of my all time favourites which I quote often and just this Sunday past I spoke about our attitudes at easter and challenged our people to live holy lives instead of getting carried away with the commercialism of easter. Many will heed the word but sadly some will not but I will not give up an anyone of them. And I will not call them names and vilify them because I know Christ loves them.

Please, please consider this matter Danny for the sake of the Church, her leaders and her blessed people.

    Respectfully yours,

    Ps Russell

  18. Victoria

    Dear Pastor Danny,

Thank you so much for your letter! My husband John asked me to read it today and I can

tell you my heart was filled with longing to see my dear Jesus.

I believe that the return of my Lord and King is near, and that we must keep short accounts

and watch, as the devil is seeking to snare and beguile even the elect.

So I thank you again and pray for our Father’s blessings on you and your family,

Yours in Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour,

    Victoria

  19. Rosemary

    Dear Pastor Danny

Thank you for your word today, it is a reminder to me that I must be ready for our Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour’s return.

What you say is true we know about many churches and their people who don’t believe Prayer works, that this is our communication with God our Father. They also don’t believe in Satan and his evil works.

I attend the Revival Life Centre in Penshurst NSW where you came in approximately 2007, at our prayer meetings we pray for the nations of the world, our own Prime Minister and all the Parliamentarians, State & Federal. We believe that it is important to keep them protected under the covering of the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I send your messages to my Brother & his wife and to other friends who are Christians.

God bless you as you share exactly what God tells you – this is very important to everyone to know about.

May God give you strength as you work in the Service of the King.

    Love from

    Apostle Danny

..tell me that apostleship is very important. The enemy can be engaged by an spostle in a warfare, even when the enemy is hiding. A prophet or an evangelist can defeat the enemy when the enemy surface or with a word of knowledge etc.

But only an apostle can go into the enemy’s camp, pull the enemy out and engage in a battle. The enemy doesn’t like that and would try to keep all the apostles unknown, unannounced and inactive!

To bring the enemy’s activities, we need the apostles. We need the 5 fold ministries.

God bless you with His mighty presence in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

I agree wholeheartedly with your statements we have to repent all of us no matter what our standing or where we think we stand thats the danger when we think we stand we fall. I’m not a pastor or preacher or anything but have been in pentecost all my life

  25. Ammy

Hi Danny, Just reading what you wrote gave me extra strength to go on with my battle.

I long to come home to Australia, don’t know which part but will see where He leads me.

Love what I see with your ministry, there is a freedom, a liberty through Him who very evidently

is central. The Word of God is marching on in the power of the Holy Spirit.

To this I can say amen, hallelujah.

    Yours in Him, Ammy

  26. Adrian

    Dear Pastor Danny,

It is important to have a prophetic voice in the nation. Most prophets have called for repentance as the basis for right living. In the Catholic Church we commence every Mass with repentance. It may be a routine for some, but that is the teaching, and practice of the Church, and foundation for the sacrament of penance, called also reconciliation or confession which is encouraged especially at this time preparing for Easter.

Your words are right, and should be heeded.

    Adrian

  27. Sue

Pastor Danny, thank you, thank you, for heeding the Voice and Word of God. Amen to all that you have said. The Lord has impressed upon me Luke21:34-36. The importance of being able to ‘stand’ before the Son of Man in that day that He returns. I am not a scholar or particulary learnt in the Word of God. However, as a follower of Christ Jesus, I would commend that we take the Word seriously, and repent, change our way, READ the Word of God, and seek the Kingdom of God, and His Rightousness.

Thank you Pastor, for giving the hard word, may God bless you and your family and ministry.

  31. Boas

    Hi Pastor Danny,

We as a church used the scripture and it worked for us. God is Holy and God is Spirit and we need to meet His standard. We cannot set our own rules and ask God to follow. For us to see healing, deliverance, restoration, break through etc in our church, ministry we must simply obey the word of the Lord “REPENT” and receive from God.

Brother, lets pray for understanding upon these people. Ephesians 1:16 – 18

  34. Mary

Pastor Danny thank you so much for being a voice for truth. Our pastor had a strong word from the Lord last week about the need for holiness. Repentance and holiness go hand in hand it seems to me. You can’t have one without the other, and without holiness no one will see God. I fear for those who don’t take the need to repent seriously. God is serious about it and we should be too.

  35. Rosemary

  36. Glenda

    Dear Danny,

Thank you so much for the wonderful work you are doing for the Lord. I am so inspired by your obedience to our glorious Lord, and thank Him for your life.

Last year, the Lord prompted me to organise the National Day of Mourning and Compassion on 23rd November, to stand in the gap for the sins of this nation re: abortion and to offer the compassion and forgiveness of the Lord to those directly affected by abortion.

I personally telephoned hundreds of pastors across Australia, and I found the number of ministers willing to take to the streets for a public prayer procession was very, very small (admittedly at fairly short notice), however most expressed verbal support for the concept and agreed to pray about the issue on the designated Day within their own Sunday services.

We received one disturbing email however from a CCC church in Tasmania. This was a scathing, whole-page attack against us for allegedly presenting a gospel that was not ‘positive’ to the community and thereby tarnishing the message of the gospel within the community. I was grieved that the whole concept of our Lord as a compassionate but Just and Holy God and the Creator and Defender and Saviour of Life was evidently not within their conceptual framework of our Almighty God.

As you know, the devil is an accuser of the brethren and a slanderer of the righteous, and it is terrible to know that he masquerades within the Body of Christ, and yet we should not be surprised. Jesus warned repeatedly about the false prophets that would emerge in the end times, and I don’t think I’ve ever before seen so many false churches and false leaders within the Australian community.

A friend of mine recently did a Google search of churches in Sydney and it was amazing that for every church there was a Masonic centre located within very close proximity… The weeds amongst the seeds.

We should not be afraid, but it is imperative that the Lord’s righteous children learn to stand up, speak out, take action, and pray in the authority ascribed to us by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself.

I am rejoicing at the beginnings of the great river of His ‘signs, miracles and wonders’ in these days, but may we all pray fervently for discernment, that we may not be deceived by the Deceiver, nor led into temptation, or distracted from the tasks assigned to us, in this critical hour.

Love and blessings in Jesus’ name,

    Glenda

  37. Maurice

Dear Danny, Thanks for this. Yes, repentance is needed in the church of Jesus Christ today. We certainly need to make sure that our lives reflect His glory but how can we do that if our hearts are not right with Him? God bless. Maurice.

  38. John

    Dear Ps Danny,

I was greatly uplifted by this. I have encountered similar slack attitudes to those you mentioned amongst many Christians. It is good to know that some are still keeping the faith.

I believe Christ’s letter to the Laodicean Church in Rev 3:14-20 is very relevant for these days.

    May God bless you,

    John

  39. Tony

    Thanks again Danny and Team

Its good to hear your’e revelation about repentence it is truly the cornerstone to salvation.

Many of the people in the pews have been watching this for so long that we don’t even bother with the pews we are called church hoppers and much more. I prefer to liken it to running about the town looking for my beloved.

As Christ draws near he will call and many that have heard his voice and remained faithful in the little will be justified. Those of little wordly understanding will shine like bright stars as his fullness enters this realm. Its going to be beautiful.

Keep going you guys the Church rises

    In peace Tony

Dear Pastor Danny,Please continue to preach as you are.Time is short and the coming of our Lord Jesus our Bridegroom is VERY near.Johns epistle is very clear that if we have this hope in us we will sanctify ourselves that we maynot be ashamed at His coming. Our experience over the last seven years in particular has been to get right with the Lord , each other ( we are married) friends, associates, work mates etc.The bottom line right now is to keep short accounts with heaven and all whom we regard as our “neighbours”.Repentance is essential even for the foremost leader of the Churches in this country.WE are instructed to be holy as He is holy, this means daily repentance. The Bride isnot yet without spot and wrinkle,if she was ,no repentance would be needed, further more if she was why are we all still here?Surely the rapture would have occurred by now? The Laodicean Church age /stage is truely with us.Amen?KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING/THERE IS MUCH JUDGEMENT COMING AND SOON!!!!

    BLESSINGS C.and N.

    Thanks for your ministry

Sadly there has begun a steady de-christianisation of Australia in the name of tolerance and acceptance of other faiths

Today’s article in the Daily Telegraph (Thursday 9/4/08) states that all symbols of Christianity have now been removed from the Chapel at Royal North Shore Hospital on the basis that signs of the cross may be offensive to other faiths

WE live in a world where there is TOLERANCE for everything, EXCEPT Truth and Christian beliefs.

    Satan is alive and well

Keep up your excellent work in Melbourne.

Sadly we don’t appear to have a fearless live-wire like you in Sydney

To the leader of the “large Pentecostal church in Melbourne” who told Ps Danny that the church is “perfect and there is no need to repent”, let me direct your attention to a couple of passages from the messages to the seven churches in Asia Minor found in Revelation chapters 2 & 3. Firstly to the church in Sardis “you have a reputation of being alive but you are dead”, and secondly to the church in Laodicea “You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.”

These two passages perfectly sum up where many of today’s contemporary trendy mega-churches fit in the scheme of things. From my personal experience of attending such churches and talking to Christians who do, there is a tendency to have a myopic view of the church and the world. In other words, they see themselves and their church through rose coloured glasses, and don’t realise that beyond their church walls the society is moving ever further away from God. Christianity is fast losing its remaining influence in Western society but many Christians don’t even realise it as all they see are the full pews of the mega-churches and all they hear is the deafening noise of the ‘worship’ band.

Like the leader who derided Ps Danny’s call for the church to repent, they think Revival is already here and their mega-church is the manifestation of it. The very churches that pride themselves on being ‘relevant’ are usually the least relevant of all. It truly is “pitiful” as Jesus said.

  43. Ross & Colleen

Good morning, yes I know it is late!!
Just wanted to let you know that over the last 3 months or so, the Lord
has placed ‘Melbourne’ on our hearts quite definitely. We have been
seeking the Lord as to ‘why’ and are seeking some more direction from
Him. We have been praying for the will of God to be done in Melbourne,
for His Kingdom to come. Just yesterday, I wondered whether the Lord
was going to bring ‘revival’ to Melbourne. Where there has been much
darkness, God comes and brings light. I have also been very compelled
and burdened by the issue of abortion. We currently live in Queensland.
Please pray for us as we seek the Lord for His will for us, and as we
seek the Lord for His will for you guys down there, in Jesus’ name I
    pray. Amen!!

    Dear Catch the Fire Team,

Just wanted to bless you, and Thank God for such amazing times at the Easter Services at Catch the Fire this past weekend!

Here is a testimony of what the Lord spoke of to me, firstly on Friday night during the communion (which was a lovely family time), He spoke of His Holiness and Purity and Righteousness through Dianne as she prayed, and it was a wonderful celebration of His death for us and the victory He won for us!

Then on Sunday morning the Lord had been speaking to me to wear a WHITE scarf at my home church service plus we also brought our Jesus flag and waved it during the worship, plus the scarf (pretty much unheard of in our church!) but it was well received (hopefully setting the fire in our church!).

Then at Catch the Fire meeting on Sunday night, again I just kept seeing WHITE WHITE WHITE, and He reminded me that when He rose again victorious, He made us WHITER THAN THE SNOW!! Isaiah 1: 18 – Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be WHITER THAN THE SNOW!!!!!!!!!!! Amen!

During the pre-service prayer I prayed that way and feeling of the WHITENSS and HOLINESS and PURITY of the Lord just came down and overwhelmed me and I began to fall in the spirit, and during the service in the worship and corporate prayer, the Lord told me to wave the WHITE Flag, particularly during the prayer-line time (but also over the whole congregation) while we were singing Oh the Blood of Jesus (before that I had been resisting because I didn’t want to draw attention to myself), but the Lord made it clear to me that was what He wanted me to do, so I did it, Hallelujah!!!

Then the worship and prayer just seemed to explode even more and a glorious time was had by all! Praise the Lord!

    God Bless you all!
    Kind Regards
    Elizabeth

    Pastor Danny,

The Lord’s been telling me that the church is very complacent that church leaders, pastors etc do not see the need to repent!

Sadly Church Leaders and Pastors etc do not see the need to repent. They claim to work for the Lord and NOT WITH the LORD .

So they serve God like those of us in circular jobs. If their argument is that only Israel should repent, God help us, what is the purpose they are serving.

Their family and personal needs are more pressing then the Lord’s need for people. There is no fear of GOD plus there is NO PRAYER life.

That means there is no personal relationship with the GOD they claim to serve. Did not Jesus have the same problem with church leaders.

He called them white washed walls!
Pastor bless you I am with you in prayer. With them or without them God is still for you, who can be against those who stand for Christ Jesus.

I give you constant prayer support.
