“This is happening across the board, it’s not just here.”
The AAP in Australia has reported that there were record-breaking attendances throughout Australia last weekend for services marking the Resurrection of Christ.
Anglican Dean Phillip Jensen of St. Andrew’s in Sydney believes the “increasing popularity of religious elements of Easter was indicative of a cultural shift in Australia.”
“This is happening across the board, it’s not just here,” said Jensen.
In Melbourne, Catholic Bishop Christopher Prowse was quoted as saying worshippers attended Easter services like never before. “I think people today are searching for a deeper sense of religion in their lives,” he said.
In Queensland, the Australian Gospel Music Festival in Toowoomba reportedly attracted 40,000 people to its worship-themed rock, pop and blues celebration dubbed the Christian Big Day Out. (Photo: A previous Australian Gospel Music Festival—ABC Queensland)
